I have been reading some AAR's and have seen some amazing victories made by people on vh/vh that I can't make on e/e so I was wondering if there is any way to get better other than just practice?
Hope the question is clear and that this thread is in the right place and does not violate any ToS or anything else, if it does I am sorry.

The amazing victories are probably because of plain old hammer & anvil.

Instead of creating a grinding match between infantry, use the infantry as a wall, an "anvil".
Wheel around your cavalry behind enemy lines and charge their backs.
The AI is only just above borderline retarded, so they have no counter to this.

It will cause a route very quickly and save you many causalities, all the while causing irreparable damage to your foe.

thanks for the tip between that and continuing battles I have found the enemy causulities rising. Also if someone reads this I thought the Julii were supposed to be one of the poorest factions? I am in somewhere between 260-240 bc and have over 150k denarii in my treasury.

The other thing to point out that campaign diffcultly VH is easier than campaign difficulty H. The reason is that the AI does not get certain bonuses that they shoulddo on VH.

The VH battle difficulty is harder than H battle difficulty.
