I'd say try and focus on defending a specific area rather than try to cling to as much land as possible. Disbanding some troops is possibly also needed. It was a while since I played, but if I remember right, I always tried to defend Italy and Africa, and then to deal with Constantine in Gaul.
Thanks
Sometime I lost even Africa, but I think it is better to defend Italy and fight with Constantine!
Try to hold Italy and Africa.. The rest ll be easy.
"...The rest will be easy.", It could be considered, in some way, quite optimistic point of view, but I concur: Try to hold Italy and Africa, if you can! It will not be an easy task!

IMHO retaking the southern Gaul should be the priority. In my campaign it was quite easy. Also a couple of turns left when the Visigoths finally attacked my cities in Italy (strange), so you can prepare some defense. Moreover I think that common player should forgot about Mauretania, but it's quite reasonable to defend the Carthage and Tripolitania. Taking back of Hispania is important, but at the beginning I was not surprised that I lost my starting provinces in this region.
Playing The Orientalis Empire is very different thing. A lot of money, and a lot of battles with Sassanids. It's become even boring after some time. But that's the only enemy that could be an dander for the Empire. The Huns become my allies very easily![]()
