    Icon4 medieval2.preference save problem

    Hey, i have followed all the instruction on the unpacking tutorials where i delete:

    • data\descr_geography_new.txt
    • data\descr_geography_new.db

    and i also added in the medieval2.preference file

    [io]
    file_first = true

    i have Read Only unticked in medieval2.preference as said in many threads but the file won't save. When i try to save it, it says ofcourse do you want to overwrite this file but than says Access Denied. My account is Administrator and i tryed with both UAC off and on and also with Read Only ticked and unticked and don't know what to do to make it work.

    Log in as Administrator for one.

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=397636 for two starting at the C: drive icon. This is what's doing it to you.

    short and sweet....go to your program files and right click on your SEGA folder, open the properties, click on the securities tab at the top, click the edit button in the middle, click and highlight your user account in the top box, click the box next to full control under the allow column on the bottom box, click apply tab at the bottom and your done....you will now have permission to do whatever you want inside your SEGA folder

    sorry i must also add that my above method is used by me cause i only use my administrator account when im offline...for security reasons of course...so i use this to still have permission to do whatever for certain files...like M2TW and other games i like to mod...

    Even if your account is an admin account, with UAC enabled, which presumably is the case, you work the majority of the time with standard user credentials and elevate your credentials to admin level when performing admin level tasks. So when you started whatever program you used to edit the preferences file you likely didn't run it as an admin, which would be required to alter a file in the program files folder, so when you try to save the file you don't have permissions because the credentials attached to the program are your standard user credentials. To solve the problem without turning off UAC right click on the shortcut or exe for the program you're using as an editor and click run as administrator then it will be using your admin credentials and you'll be able to save. Of course turning UAC off has the same effect since then you'd always be using your admin credentials, even when you don't need them.
