    Default Udefeated campaign anyone?

I play vanilla, currently playing as venice VH/VH, 58 turns in and undefeated in battle... so I decided to challenge myself to world domination remaining undefeated! including naval battles.

    Zero cheating.

Has anyone ever tried or accomplished this? Its making it more of a challenge for me than usual, you have to plan alot more before every end turn... I doubt I will accomplish it, but I will have fun trying!

People have done so (I completed half a campaign like that! ) but it requires you to be careful with your navy. It's very easy to have a few isolated ships suddenly taken out by a surprise enemy ambush, and a withdrawal counts as a defeat in the statistics - unless you ignore that of course.

Managing land battles is easy, just keep your troops together.

Naval battles , that will be a challenge. Just because of the way AI will suddenly appear out of the dark with a huge fleet vs. your sensible 2-3 ships.

I'd probably just completely scrap naval excursion -- apart from taking down the few islands in the game.

Land battle is easy, but unexpected siege will be an issue.

Probably be easiest with faction like.. England , Russia, etc.. places that don't have to watch their backs so much.

doing it with HRE on vh/vh , now that would be very impressive to have no defeats.

Just be careful when you land in the Americas, sometimes the Aztec stacks can be overwhelming if you haven't tangled with them before.

Without re-loading it's not possible on VH\VH, always got pawned by AI navy eventually at some point.
If one aims for then it might be possible, like playing a land-locked faction like HRE and not paying attention on crusades and such as i use navy to go to the holy lands.
But i don't see any fun especially by focusing on such a thing. Generally an unexpected defeat from AI is what makes my blood boil and i just steam roll them.

You definitely would have to aim for it. Like scraping navy entirely until you have huge stack of ships, and not marching any armies in the field short of full stacks of Gothic Knights when Timurids show up.

Does the game cheat on VH/VH?

Teleport units, make money out of thin air etc.

I have done undefeated campaigns before by accident, usually any losses I have will be naval battles. If you decide to be undefeated it should be quite easy to pull this off.

I've never done this, I always lose at least one battle, typically a siege.

Thanks for the tips! I have managed to avoid naval defeat thus far, by ensuring all small fleets are in docks before I click end turn. I can sure see it being a risk though, when I start to move armies around by fleet and into unseen waters! I think I will make one or two full stack fleets and use them to move armies around... and Americas will be fun! have only ever landed there once with a Scotland save, and that was a nice surprise!

Also, by world domination, I mean taking every region on the map! not just completing the long campaign objectives... I am sure I will lose sooner or later, as I can not plan for every surprise! but I will try and get as far as I can, be fun trying to avoid a single defeat against the Mongols and Timurids!

I rarely build navies, so I rarely suffer defeats with them - a single ship for short-distance transport, about 5-10 ships for naval warfare (if you use the best ships available, that“s usually enough)
I suffer more defeats because of random, unseen enemies that just jump out of nowhere at my small armies-on-the-march and in sieges - the Mongols I have managed without losing anything, but the Timurids always crash their way through one settlement/army or another...

It would require so much careful planning to successfully go through an entire world domination campaign undefeated that it would not be funny anymore.
You would sit for hours at every turn to try and think three steps ahead on every move you make, and those moments of joy would be in so short a supply that I, for one, would sooner smash my computer in a fit of impatience-rage than go through that.
I prefer to suffer the occasional defeat, then.

Exactly, it'd be like playing chess. I hate chess. It requires thinking ahead. I hate thinking ahead.

I have about 20 defeats per campaign out of about 300 battles, and only two or three of them are land battles that I fought personally. Having an undefeated campaign would be quite a feat... But then again, as Ishan said, it takes away a very fun aspect of the game of losing a battle and getting so ticked off that your mobilize your entire army to steamroll just one nation.

You guys that posted it might be a bit boring and take away the fun trying to remian undefeated.... You have a point! I can see myself getting a bit bored with the campaign, when I find myself losing interest, I might just save and start another game, then come back to it from time to time...

Just out of interest, does anyone know of an empire, kingdom etc. that spanned a long time and remained undefeated in battle? can't be bothered to google it

"Battle" is subjective because it can include skirmishes too small to be recorded in history. I don't think anybody can be undefeated when skirmishes are taken into account.
