Is there anything particular you need help with? There are also plenty of guide threads to come by.
My favorite faction will have to be the custom one that I'm currently modding into the game. It is my favorite faction because it is the first one I am modding into the game and it should be a decent faction. FYI for anyone who knows/cares I unified all the roman factions into one covering the entire roman mainland and am going to use the faction entry from the brutii to make my new faction.
Will you post that mod or submod so i can download it?
Give me unit specs, tactics and overall rating of :
Gauls
Brutii
Germania
Egypt
Carthage
Barbarian factions get strong early and tend to lose their advantage the longer the campaign runs for. In a good position to attack Rome early. Perhaps save for a bit, because it might be a bit much if you're new to the game.
The easiest Romans IMO. Access to Greece and the sea means you'll have the most income out of the Romans.Brutii
A stronger barbarian faction than the Gauls, but not as good a position geographically. Spam Spear Warbands early on because they will beat other early barbarian troops you'll come across and don't try Scythia until you've got some good cav and some archers.Germania
The most overpowered faction. Ridiculous generals and unit selection. Takes a bit of experience to get the best out of them, but chariot archers are my favourite unit type. Excellent position with plenty of income and population growth.Egypt
Good position, but bad early roster. Tech up your temples to Baal to get Sacred Band units at tier 4 which will win you the world if you can get them out there.Carthage
That's a very basic overview![]()
Brutii: Roman. thas all that really needs to be said. game is kinda stacked in roman favour. youve got access to the most powerful statistically speaking) infantry, cavalry... best seige equipment... you have great financial building trees, access to the most happiness buildings... you have it all. the brutii are my personal favourite romans because they expand into greece instantly. lotsa cities very close together works great for early gme consolidation. great all rounders, but the romans suck for special units.
Germania: best of the barbarians. their special infantry is what you play these guys for. early game hold tight to a couple phalanx warbands to defend your settlements while spamming special units (through temples)(however slow to recruit they may be, they are cheap, and germans dont have much money early on) to expand. early game its kinda tough, and barbarian means you have smaller cities, less building options... but late game with berserkers and gothic cav these guys are absolutely beast.
Carthage: reeaaaally hard earlly game. expensivey units early on...attacked all over... focus first on the numidians and then consolitate there. try to get a phalanx as soon as possible, and hold as many islands as possible for the sea trade. they have trading temples, which are good for money. their early units...terrible. id reccomend going round shield cav. late game theyre a force to reckon with, as their best units are comparitively cheap, and they have elephants.
Gaul: terrible. few special units, only druids (great) naked fanatics (good early only) and forester warbands? (im not positive). they have the best archers in the game, but other then that their units can be bested my pretty mch every civilised factions. as with all barbarian factions smaller city sizes...no siege equipment...and terrrrrible early game. wouldnt bother with these guys.
egypt: less familiar, didnt play much with them. statistically, their units suck. their pikes are worse..their cav sucks...their archers arent bad... their strength lies in the rich lands and easy conquesting of the deserts. they also have a good mix of most unit types-including chariots which are ridiculously powerful.
gaul sucks bruti is fun to play never played germania eygepts to easy and charthage is a good chalange
Regarding to your first post, in my opinion Julii family is easy mode. Your heavily armored troops steam roll your barbarian enemies. Gaul and Germania aren't threats, unless Germania is allowed to gather the more deadly troops such as Berzerkers and Night Raiders and such. Still they're pretty easy opponents. The factions aren't balanced very well in this game. So any Roman faction has a pretty good early and late advantage. Carthage, Macedon, Greece, Seleucids, and Armenia I believe are also some deadly factions to play. Armenia doesn't have a strong starting position though, but they have a powerful diverse roster nonetheless. Any faction can be played and won with though, just some more challenging than others. I love playing as Germania, some of their troops have demoralizing abilities such as Night Raiders, and the Berzerkers have killing abilities that should be illegal. All depends on your playstyle. Mess around on some custom battles, pick your playstyle.
I like the Gauls and Germania. I don't know why. But I prefer the Gauls.
And tell me if u played medieval II total war, how to build an economy etc, for campaign
especially with gauls & germanians
Trade income is tops. The best way to get rich is to have short-distance sea trade routes. Think Greece especially, but others in the north are good as well. Farms aren't great, I never build them. Roads are useful and add 100dn a turn for each level up IIRC.
Gauls can expand south and take the ports along the Mediterranean. Capturing the northern Julii settlements early will set you up for a while and allow you to produce great units that nobody can match early on. Germania is harder and aren't in a good spot. I'd take out the Brits and get that trade route up and expand south with Spear Warbands towards the Julii starting settlements and Greece.
Personally, I like Numidia and Spain. The beginnings of their campaigns are challenging, and I find it fun that way. I also prefer cavalry strong factions in general. If you are looking for help in any way, I would suggest going through guides, and choosing a faction that has a strategy that suits your style. The Romans are always easy to start with, for example.
WIP. Watch this space. It'll be epic.
No, seriously.

Oh you undoubtedly get quite a bit of money from farming, it's just that it is scaled to the population of your settlement much more than trade is. There's not as much you can do to influence the ammount of farming growth, so even though I pay no attention to it at all, I end up with a lot of income from farming. On the other hand, if I built no trade buildings my income would be much lower. They give you more bang for your buck and, as Willowran pointed out, are less troublesome too.
New to RTW? I remember my first campaign with julii, i was a child. After years, i play still rtw. Leaving memories , the best faction to begin this game is Brutii family. They are the richest roman faction, and especially in the vanilla game phalanxes (Brutii fights against hellenistic people) don't hurt them. You can conquerer easily the map with Brutii. Egyptian are also a good faction to begin, but I hate them, they pave all the faction they are in war.
In my opinion other simply factions are Cornelii and Seleucid (with Seleucid you can train very complex and various armies and choose your favorite tactic)
I am not new to TW games as i played MTW II - similiar and even more complex than rtw
MTW II is definitely more complex than RTW because RTW is an older game.
Running an economy is rather simple. The easiest and quickest method is to conquer cities and exterminate them. This allows you to "reap" the benefits. To keep steady income, build ports, trade routes, farms, etc. I find building farms are great in some areas, and ports in others. Right click on the map around your settlement. You should see some words that say "__ Fertility". High fertility is great for farms, and so is medium. Low is bad. Building economic buildings are common sense. Settlements near the Mediterranean need ports. Those who have high fertility - get the farms.
The easiest to faction to play in my opinion is the Julii. The Brutii are fairly close, but they do have to deal with a plethora of phalanx and hoplite troops that sometimes, a newcomer to RTW may not be able to handle well enough.

Give me some links of guides, as i could not find any.
Gaul is pretty good early game actually. They start with the most settlements out of any faction, the largest army and are spread out to attack multiple directions from the start which is good if you're into that sort of thing. You'll find some assorted guides in the Scriptorium here.
