Default Advice on Page filing + Two hard drives

Alright, I did read http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...ht=paging+file Number 10, but I am still left with some question.

I recently aquired another hard drive of 250 Gigs to compliment my 120 gigabyte hard drive. My original Drive (C) had a page file of 3069-4092, with my RAM being 2.00 Gigs. The second hard drive was without any page file. I decided to add in a similiar setup and gave it 3069-3800, and now it says my total page file is 6138.

I have the feeling I need to change something because while CS:S works great now that I have more hard drive space, RTW still lags more than it used to long ago. I am wondering that when the guide says I should have 1.5 times my ram for my Page file, does it mean alltogether, for each drive, or for only one drive?

And is 3069-4092 too large a scope, when I could perhaps just set the minimum and maximum around 3069?

Edit: I really could use advice on this because I just now realized that the root of all my problems with RTW running slow was because of the page file setup. Now that I set it to system-set, the game ran rather smooth nearing 6,000 people with high graphics, something it never would have been able to before. I do want to reach an opimum rate though, and would still ask for advice on how to set up both or one of my harddrives.

Page files are temporary stores when RAM just doesnt have enough room, and as such you want them to be as fast as possible and used only when necesary.

But then you probably knew that!

Ill cut to the chase.. dont have the page file located on the same physical drive your operating system is trying to access, as reading and writing to both at the same time will slow things down.

The ideal situation would be (in theory) if you happened to have three physical drives, the OS would be on C, Rome would be on D and the page file would be on.. E. Failng that, have windows on C and Rome + page file on D

failing a seprate physical drive, a different partition set aside that isnt used for much else but a page file would help too, i think.

Also if you set the max and min size to the same number, it will prevent the whole thing shrinking and growing, and thus becoming fragmanted. Unless thats just an urban legend that is

I remember it talking about partitioning. I'll set it up. Though, right now my second drive (250) is being slowly filled up with my music and games, the old drive might be set to the OS, and maybe the Page file.

I cannot set up a partition of the boot drive (The old original), will it be too slow if I set up a partition of 3400 Mb (3.4 gigs) on the new drive (250 gig) for the page file? May I ask what your page file is?

Sure - just remember i dont pretend to be any sort of authority on virtual memory!

I think my partitions of C and E are the same physical drive, so the page file shouldnt go on either of those, as C contains Windows

The rest of my partitions (should really merge a few, not sure why i have so many..) are on my other hard drive. D is pretty small and used for pretty much nothing but the page file, the rest are used for games etc.

As far as i know this is roughly as it should be, though i wouldnt be surprised if someone else posted here saying why im way off!

I tried partioning a 4 gig space in my 250 gigs to put the page file in, it just butchered my framerate in Counterstrike source, and in booting up the PC.

I'll just stick it on the main drive with 120 gigs, since most of my games will be on 250 gig.
