    Default oh my word

(POSTED IN TECH SUPPOR SECTION, BUT NO VIEW AS OF YET so i do it here, maybe i get some help in time for 7.5)

Okay, here is what i consider a major issue

Upon discovering darth mod, i decided to crack out my old rome total war game, so i install it, put it to 1.3 and 1.5, then at the end i use the "start rome total war" option after the install, and it works. Upon exiting, and trying to restart the game doesnt work! the little box in hte middle of the screen but, then it givesme the "send or dont send" error box out of nowhere! =( i then tried to install the mod, which worked but hte startup sitll wouldnt. then, i tried installing 1.5 again to start it up that way, but that also didnt work.

i musta installed, uninstalled, deleted restored the files multiple times this past few days and its blowing my mind as to why this happens

    any suggestions?

let me guess you are using deamon tools? just eject and mount again...it will work.
a restart helps too, but ejecting and re-mounting is way more convenient and time saving

negatory i am useing my cd, i dare not use daemon tools, i dislike copying games and whatnot. I use a legit copy all the way through (bought on the 5th day after release)

Rambling again, but basically i dont know what wrong! i wish it would work!

well try to eject the cd then..if that doesnt help try restarting your pc.
i have a legit copy too but i have enough chaos on my desk without cds of dozens of games i play. thats why i use little image files instead of stacks of cds

i discovered the same prob recently..anyways i thought it has to do with the daemon tools.i donno if it has to do with win xp or the 1.5 patch...or the messed up registry due to too many parallel rome installs and patches donno. but restart helped for me. and if you download the image nocd file eject and mount in daemon tools solved it too

well it worked for me..thats all i can say. today i modded my game and had to close and reload it several times..i found out it works with just eject and remount instead of restarting. all i can say. obviously you have a different problem then. a unique one that never has been mentioned before. how could i know that.
i also can not guess that you are a soo extraordinarly smart pc guru and not a pc noob like many others who ask easy questions. if i could have guessed that i wouldnt have bothered answering.

well i still would download an *.mdf file for rome 1.5 and try the eject/mount thing with daemon tools.
takes only a few minutes and there is a slight chance of success
    but whatever

lol oh sorry!! i thought you were ironic and tried and telling me that my advice is ideotic.
acually i was offended coz i was thinking you make fun of my try to help

well if u were thanking me instead of making fun of me then: you are welcome

hmmm the crash after darth screen makes me think that something went wrong with the installation.

you should right click the shortcut to rtw and click properties. there will be one field target:"E:\Gamez\Terra Ex - Total War\RomeTW.exe" or something like that..change it to:
    target:"E:\Gamez\Terra Ex - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -show_err

    just add -show_err after the "blahblah.exe" -show_err

it gives you error messages why the game crashes...that would help to troubleshoot

    You don't have a space between the -show_err and " I think

alright, now it let me show_err

the game only starts when i insert the cd and hit run, not the shortcut, that doesnt wrok flatout. But im inserting disk and starting that way to see teh error

(edit) didnt even get an error report, was i spposed to or do i have to dig for it? this game has givng me fuss for so long, and ive gotten a step closer tonight thanks to you guys. im hoping it works, whatver you guys have me do (reinstall perhaps?)

ya the space between " and -show_err matters

edit: 7.0 is good coz i have that too and im sure it works without fixes..generally i mean and xp will affect nothing. its good too because we have basically the same platform then..easier to troubleshoot

My entry for the show error thing reads this exactly :

    "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -show_err

so did u get an error message?..that the shortcut doesnt work is weird. that makes me think the shortcut points to a wrong location...or your registry is really messed up due to re/installs..

maybe the shortcut you have left there is from an previous install...just create a new shortcut by rightclicking the rometw.exe and selecting "create shortcut" in the context menu...just to make sure
the show error will only work when u start from the shortcut i think.
another thing you can do is to open a dosbox by clicking start (bottom left) then click "run" and type cmd [enter]
when the dosbox pops open you drag&drop the rometw.exe into the dosbox and add -show_err (with the space )

well first i want you to get the shortcut working...if that doesnt work deinstall..and delete the rome folder also...then download a little tool called regcleaner. i can find u a link if you dont find it. start regcleander and select everything that looks like rome..rtw..or ca and remove it. then restart your pc and install again. before you install darthmod try if the new install of the game works without darthmod. if it does install darthmod and report what happens. that will keep you busy a while
i have dinner in the meanwhile and watch a few legit family guys. after that i read here and see whats the situation with your game

i cant figure out what is wrong!!

if i un install, delete teh activision folder and reinstall whta would the step by step to do be? beause what ive done it

    install,

install 1.3and run it, it works

install 1.5 and install, it works

try to start again after getting out doesnt work (now know that re inserting disk may make it work)

would then install 7.0 wouldnt work.

    came here

thats it right? should i try it again?

(EDIT) i did the dos box oepration, but it sitll didnt work (with the -show_err thing) and it opened, put the little box in the middle saying rome total war then the "send or odnt send" box popped up, which is what happens when started from shortcut contrary to that of inserting cd and hitting play, which is when i goto the darth 7.0 screen, and ctd with no error send or dont send

its really weird..well deinstall like i wrote in my last post..that will make sure that rtw is completly gone...and then install and patch to 1.5 and see if it works...then we go on from there
http://www.worldstart.com/weekly-dow...regcleaner.exe <-there you get the regleaner tool
