    Default The Morrowind project

Nothing against Skyrim but its sort of flat for me. I think I'm going to wait until the CK comes out and old timers like myself have their fun modding out the rough edges.

But it did get me thinking about Morrowind again (back when mages could fly and teleport) and the massive amount of modding done to it.

In a way the massive modding makes it more difficult to start. There are SO many mods, we are talking about 100's, and which works with what becomes confusing.

So I found THIS and installed it. Its a large collection of mods and HUGE graphic enhancements which will play, look, (and tax) a 2011 gaming system.

It looks awesome but then I went and mucked around with the mods breaking it so I'm in the process of reinstalling it while my wife is busy getting set up for Thanksgiving. Sceenshots and observations shall follow.

(size wise in terms of GB, its the same size as Skyrim, people did a LOT of work on this one).

    Happy Thanksgiving!

It's missing Connary's Textures, probably not worth your bother unless they have something as good to replace it.

Looks pretty good so far, no idea about all the possible mods though.

Confirmed that Connary's work beats the snot into that in terms of breadth of work and delivery.

It's too bad that the new stuff he was working on will likely not be released

Looks like I'm going to have to upgrade my PC to replay Morrowind.

I got the one installed and working, I'll give the other compilation a go to compare.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

You guys should check out MGE XE too while your at it with the texture packs and all that. It's like an improved version of normal MGE. (Notice the shadows) If you already use MGE or plan on using one of these compiliations just install the comp. first and then overwrite the MGE it installs with this one and it'll work just fine.

Well I got the other overhaul working and yea, thats pretty damn awesome.

I think I'll be playing that one instead of the one I found originally. Now I just have to refresh my memory on the leveling issues.

Bethesda has never been good at leveling systems...

I downloaded/played through the 2011 rendition of the compilation earlier in the year, and would recommend it to anyone looking at playing through Morrowind again. The only issue I had with it was that of stability, but then again that is more due to Morrowind itself then the efforts of the modders.

I'm trying to recall exactly how to set up a character to work with the quirks of the leveling system.

For a pure mage I'd generally want to max int/wil/end each level right? (I forget how many stat increases you get).

So I should make sure my most used skills in these are minors?

This looks amazing - really makes me want to play Morrowind. So many people say that Morrowind is superior to Oblivion and Skyrim.
There's also a mod called Morroblivion that has Morrowind rendered in Oblivion graphics.

I've never really stopped playing Morrowind, but recently I've weird crashes, too. The game ran pretty good, with an occasional CTD for no obvious reason. I think my game is pretty screwed up, due to the amount of mods I installed, edited or made myself.

But now I sometimes get messages like "Unable to find animation #19591 on cliff_racer". Funny thing is, I didn't install any new mods, I only created new Distant Land settings with MGE and I never had messages like this ever before.

Also I've performance issues in the West Gash (say, around Gnisis and Khuul), especially when it's raining. Dunno why, works fine everywhere else.

I haven't played it, but Morroblivion has probably the same disadvantages Oblivion had and lacks the things that made Morrowind that unique.
I guess there'll be no 'medium armour' skill. No primary and secondary skill system, ugly faces, and some other things.
Oblivion has some advantages, especially regarding combat and spell casting, but there are mods that can improve Morrowind in the same way (Morrowind Enhanced Combat and Oblivion Style Spellcasting).

Huh? The CS should be included in the installation. I've never heard that you've to buy it. Anyway, there's a mod that removes cliff racers, IIRC.

But honestly, without these ing annoying bastards, Morrowind is not Morrowind.

I would rather have a memory that is fair but unfinished than one that goes on to a grievous end.

The CS is not included in the Steam purchase. The CS files available on TES Nexus don't work for the expansions.

Morroblivion is sorta....meh. Honestly you might as well just play Morrowind as it can look even better than Oblivion.
