    Very interesting, I wonder is it because their respiration system allows them to stay on land briefly? Furthermore, does it connect with evolution?

    AFAIK they can stay on land for something like an hour. They're pretty inquisitive and are notorious escape artists. Their diet already depends on their ability to open things, wrinkle stuff out of inaccessible places and such, so perhaps that is the reason why they seem so eager to explore new territory.

    I doubt it's mouthparts are large enough to swallow something as big as the shell in the video. Rather, I think it may have been munching on the crab the whole time, holding it to it's mouth, discarding the shell when it was done eating...

    In any case, I don't think being out of water or not would make a difference on it's ability to spit out a crab shell. If anything, while it may depend on the species, being able to come out of water would be helpful if, say, that species of octopus happens to frequent coastal tide pools for hunting or whatnot, as with the coming and going of tides, these pools can become isolated or even dry up.
