    Default Requesting some help/modding/skinning

    I was wandering 2 things;

    1) Is it possible to put the roman army from standard RTW into BI? (Dont care if its not time accurate or realistic i just wanna see those cohorts, triarii, etc fighting off barbarians) the BI romans are ugly, because there made up of barbarians or something i dunno there armours just boring, please mod/skin this for me im sure theres others out there that would like this too (They can skin the west or east romans i dont car tbh) it would be cool if they could make the tuesudo (sp?) and everything aswell but a simple reskin/rename etc of all the units would do i guess

    And

    2) How do i go about making all units in-game take 0 turns to make? (I know theres mods but i just want the 0 turn thing, big battles are my thing )

Posted before going out in a rush, hoping for a responce for when i get back to save time hehe, thanks in advance... sorry if the questions are daft

    1. Yes it is possible, check the descr_model_battle.txt and export_descr_unit.txt files, and you'll learn how to do it alone since I can't imagine anybody else wanting to play with republican units on 363 AD.

    2. bi\data\export_descr_unit.txt
Press CTRL + H (in notepad) to replace
    "stat_cost 1"
    "stat_cost 2"
or "stat_cost 3" if you know any units with 3 turns recruitment time.
    with
    "stat_cost 0".

Read the Export_... readme at the top of the text file to learn how to link the units to models .

    Thanks a bunch :original:

Will the RTW roman units go into the campaign or only be available in custom battles?

To get them into the campaign you need to add them as recruitable in buildings in
export_descr_buildings.txt and to get them to appear in armies at the beginning of the campaign you need to add them into armies within descr_strat.txt

Bah i give up, cant get it to work

    Soldier types, exporting, importing. Ack.

I think i managed to insert all the original RTW units into BI so BI would know where the models and stuff were by copying and pasting everything from RTW's export_descr_unit.txt onto the bottom of BI's descr_model_battle.txt but jeez its confusing.

You shouldn't be copying and pasting stuff from export_descr_unit into descr_model_battle.txt, you should be copying the data from the RTw descr_model_battle and export_descr_unit into the Bi descr_model_battle and export_descr_unit, editing the texture lines in descr_model_battle.txt and ownership lines in export_descr_unit.

Cant i leave the texture lines as data/models_unit/etc, etc so BI pulls the models from RTW's data folder?
Damn, first error... when i start the game it just closes to desktop, whats that about any ideas?

Yes, you can leave the texture lines (& other lines as well) so that they pull them from the RTW files - that is no problem. As far as your CTD, its prob nothing related to the DMB file (this would most likely cause a CTD when loading the unit in a custom battle). I would bet it has something to do with the EDU file - make sure that the text giving the unit name at the top doesn't copy another one in existence. Go through the steps you have taken so far if you want a more in depth answer.

edit: On second thought, using the same unit name for two units in the DMB would cause this as well - just check over the code you have changed and see if it agrees with the many great tutorials on this subject

Everything Pubilis said' You should add show-err to your target line as well it might help, the target in the properties for your RTWBI shortcut should look like this.
    "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" -show_err

This will give you an error message when you Ctd. it's always a good idea to make a back up of files before you work on them, and it is very confusing, i've been doing this for a while and still make mistakes all the time. try to do this with one unit at first, and go from there.

Oh and a big warm welcome to the forum's, please remain seated at all times and note the exits are often locked, have a quick look through the forum rules, we hope you enjoy your ride.

Ty for the welcome, using that command line helped me find the duplicate errors that were CTD before, but now i get this D: (hopefully if i can fix this then the game will work again )

I've never seen this, but i'm going to take a shot. how many units have you tried to move over to bi, becuse there is a limit of something like 200-250, it looks to me that you may have gone over, as there is no mention of a specific unit, but it has a problem with the whole file, but i could be wrong i've only ever seen one show-err and i set that up just to see if it worked. :original:

How could i go about replacing all the existing units with the RTW ones? or would that be 10x more work?
