    Default Faction leader dies --> CTD

    Hi

    I've been coding a bit for ROP lately, and am now working on the map. The first six factions went in without problems, but after that, I got CTDs as soon as a faction leader died. It crashed at the end of the rebels turn. By making the leader a few years younger, the CTD gets moved a few years further into the game. The reason for this CTD is rather hard to tell, because I was editing 25 files at the same time - renamed the codenames for factions so that we won't have to use romans_julii while we mean IE Persia. Weird thing is, I can't find any errors in those files, and the CTD only happens for eastern and greek culture factions. Has anyone ever managed to successfully rename the codenames of factions? Anyone who can help me with this problem will get to hear a secret about RTW 1.5 I've discovered today. It's concerning a rather major BI feature.

    Thanks in advance;

    Renaming... hmm... not such a big feature. Adding new names would be .

    But the CTD you're talking about shouldn't have anything to do with the fact you renamed (wow!!) the codenames.

    Sounds like you coded too much in one go That's going to make tracking down an error very hard.

    You need to think about what happens when a leader dies. For example, the game would look to change the heir into the new leader and would check also for victory conditions. Most of the process is culture rather than event driven (such as the events themselves) but changing the codenames (though I must admit I cannot see the need to do that) will likely cause a real headache.

    Oh would it also check the victory conditions? Guess that may be a problem, since I think they're all set to capture rome, but rome is not on the map. Never thought this'd be a problem and I'll look into it right away.

    I am not sure of all the instances or times of VC checks, but if you have no heir and no family members assigned (or it does not recognise them as such) and your leader dies then the VC is certainly checked and you lose.

    However, VCs usually cause problems before the campaign begins if there is an error.

    Well I have recoded the VCs, but that didn't help at all, unfortunately. I think I'll have to try some more things.
