    Default Ottomans?

Forgiven the somewhat noob question but honestly I'm not feeling patient enough to check every mod thread. So is there any mod out there for M2TW, set during the same time frame as M2TW (1080 - 16th century), that features the Ottomans as a starting faction (if the time frame is set in the 13th century) or an emergent faction (if the campaign starts back in 1080)?

It seems a tad odd that M2TW didn't feature them in the vanilla version given that the game's time frame more than covers the first mention of the Ottomans in 1299 and their rise to prominence through the 14th and 15th centuries. It would seem even more odd that no one created a mod that would feature them.

So is there such a mod out there or am I going to have to be content with just imagining that the "Turks" are Ottomans when I get to the 14th century?

The faction called "the Turks" covers that area - it represents first the Seljuks and later the Ottomans, since both those peoples were turkish anyway.

Itīs the same thing as how the Moors represents all the different tiny factions and peoples that made up their faction, or how Denmark supposedly represents all scandinavian peoples in one faction.
The Ottomans are kind of an emergent faction in the Crusades campaign, but other than that I donīt know of anything such as what you speak of... sorry if thatīs not much help.

The problem, as I understand, is that there is no way to change the name of a faction. Therefore, if the faction is "the Turk", then you are stuck with that faction name. Therefore, the only way to have a pure Ottoman faction would be to have an exclusive faction just for the Ottomans. But the problem with having them emerge is that emergent factions only make sense when they emerge OFF the map and then invade the map, so it feels like something that is outside your control. Since every map has Turkey in it, nobody has made an emergent Ottoman Faction. An emergent faction that emerges within the map doesn't make that much sense,

The Ottomans only "emerge" in the crusades campaign in the form that the Turks get a new family member (Osman) in late 1200s who comes along with a stack full of Janissary units. This emergence isn't even accurate as Janissaries did not exist at that time.

    Yup

Look at their unit roster - later on it's pure "Ottoman" as i don't see anyone using Azabs when Ottoman Inf and Janissaries become available.

Besides that, the Ottomans were a Turkish "clan" led by Osman who rose to power on the ashes of the Seljuk Empire. The Seljuks had a bit more Persian in them but besides that the continutity of the M2 faction "Turks" is just fine IMO.

Besides, for the Ottomans to "emerge" in a game then you need the Seljuks to dwindle in power so that would complicate things. Otherwise you might end up in a game where both Seljuks and Ottomans exist

So for a pure Ottomans faction to exist you need to start the game around 1300 when Anatolia is divided into the remnant "states" of the Seljuk Empire, one of which would be the Ottomans. If you do that you migh as well divide the HRE into the medieval greman states, or go with the kingdoms of Castille and Leon in Spain or divide the Moors etc... Just saying...

Or find a mod that starts in 1400 when the Ottomans have consolidadte power and are the emerging bad-boy in the block...

Stainless steel does divide Spain into Castille and Aragon. But I've never seen a mod with Ottos as a distinct faction.

There's a mod in development on this site called "Anatolian Principalities" -- someone is making / has made (ie a beta might be out) where the focus is all on that part of the world, with all the various 'sects' etc.

as for the Vanilla game, much of it has to be simplified in order to make the game playable -- if they (C.A.) had made a game where every last clan, kingdom, duke-dom, principality, republic, or peoples were available -- it would be unplayable to the the masses.

You can find so many mods for m2tw tho, so if you want to feel more historically plugged in, just try and serach for the desired time-frame and factions you'd like to see...

People who want everything you have listed should just play Europa Universalis.
[M2TW AAR] The Spirit of the Blitz (16 turn long campaign victory with Sicily)
[RETROFIT AAR] World War 0 (All factions hotseat)

Those two existed parallel in history and the Seljuks and Ottomans didn't. So basically if Castille conquers Aragon it would be possible for them to be transformed into the "Kingdom of Spain" - now that would be a really cool feature.

But in order for the Ottomans to appear you need the Seljuks to dissaper. So what if that doesn't happen in your game? And the Seljuks don't get the late troops of the Ottomans so there they are stuck with obsolte troops in 1500... I think dividing the Turks is just to tricky to do.

Maybe a pop-up around 1350 or just smth saying that the ruling Turkish dinasty has changed is doable but other than that i think we're fine as we are with the Turks. Maybe smth like the Marian reforms in RTW - after this you will not be able to recruit the old units of the Seljuks but will have some new Ottoman troops available.

True. I wish the diplomacy system and realsim of EU would meet the battle system and gfx of TW one day...
