    Default Armenia

Why isnt armenia a faction. In the Persian wars with the greeks armenia played a critical role in aiding the persians with troops espeicaly heavy cavalry of the time. I think its Herodotuc i might be mistaken who gives acount of the Persian Wars, and he even mentions the armenian generals who commanded the Armenian army. Also I dont know if the mod goes this far, but in the time of Alexander the Great when he fought Dariush at gaugamela there is records of the large Armenian army in the ranks of the Persians. When Darius fled the battle field, the armenian king of the time Vahag fought to the death in defense of the Persian Empire.

Yes we've pondered Aremenia as a faction before, but sadly with the current faction limits were pretty streched out thin ATM. Besides the fact that Aremenia really didint do much during our mods starting timeline.(WAAY before the Persian wars I can assure you.)
But dont not remorse, for we can still add regional Aremenian units for hire like RTR's AOR system.(Though much more simple and gives the player a better control over there armys)So situations like the ones you describe with Aremenian Kings fighting to the death to protect there superiors will very likely be a reality if the player wishes it.

Fair enough. I'm pretty sure that armenia became pretty inactive after the defeat of...assyria i think. A satrap, I do believe.

Yes they were a satrap of the Mede Empire, which IS a faction in our mod, since 585 BC, until they were conquered by Achaemenid Persia in 550 BC. Since our mod starts at 559 BC, we can't have Armenia as a faction, sorry.

yeah its pretty much been stated but il reiterate because i love posting here

Armenia were unfortunately inactive in this time period. Other than a revolt during Darius the great's Accession turmoil they were not even independant. However everyone was revolting at that time so we can't really single out the Armenians over the others (such as the Elamites or any of the many countries mentioned in the Behistun inscription)

There were high ranking Armenians in the Persian empire - Darius names an Armenian general, Dadarsis, in the behistun inscription as a man he trusted to lead an army suppressing revolts in Armenia. The Armenian won the battle of Zuzahya on the 20 may 521 B.C. (The Behistun Inscription - Translated by Maria Brosius). The trust placed in Armenians supports my theories of a very close relationship between the Armenians and Iranian peoples.

However their lack of independance really hampers having them as a faction. Also the lack of a real unique feature to their armies or culture compared to others in the area means were not really willing to go the extra mile for them.

But i would like to see Armenian units recruitable somwhere - unfortunately that will need some speculation
