    Default The Rise of Germany

it seems that despite the Euro crisis, Germany's hand grows stronger by the day as pressure mounts both within and without the EU-for real change...give the recalcitrant eurosceptics enough time and soon they'll beg for Germany's leadership and the eventual evolution of the EU as the new Holy Roman Empargh.

    but this was even foreseen over 18 months ago;
let us now discuss the impact of a Germanic hegemon on the other side of the Atlantic

i, for one, welcome our new Deutsch masters and eagerly await the day when German made supercarriers cruise the sealanes

Yes it's interesting times ahead. I think it will be good for the planet, a nice balance of power will be good for global security and it also keeps the options open for developing nations a bit like the cold war, 'do we go with the Soviet Union or America or be really smart and play them of against each other?'.
The world has been to lop sided since the collapse of the USSR. But I like this arrangement, in the European corner we have Germany, in the Asian corner we have China and in the North American corner we have ...... well ..... watch this space.

What will be really interesting is, what will happen to the English language, if Germany are dominating Europe will everyone have to learn German instead of English?

German isn't widely used. English is, so no.

Deutschland Über Alles is all you need to know when the Germany will retake it's rightful place in the world, I much prefer the Germans to the arrogant French and only good can come from a German led Europe.

Interesting enough, it's Germany that is endangering Europe at the moment by disagreeing to French demands of turning the European Bank to an actual bank and allowing the existence of European-bonds.
Under the patronage of Emperor Maximinus Thrax
"Steps to be taken in case Russia should be forced out of war considered. Various movements [of ] troops to and from different fronts necessary to meeting possible contingencies discussed. Conference also weighed political, economic, and moral effect both upon Central and Allied powers under most unfavorable aspect from Allied point of view. General conclusions reached were necessity for adoption of purely defensive attitude on all secondary fronts and withdrawing surplus troops for duty on western front. By thus strengthening western front [those attending] believed Allies could hold until American forces arrive in numbers sufficient to gain ascendancy."

Oh yeah, I'd much rather be a German worker then a Frenchman, sipping wine, sitting in the sun.

This thread is hilarious, best one I've seen in a while. I would quote some people, but there are just too many.

that'd depend on their sci-advances; although right now the predominant language in research science is english because most of the cutting edge research is conducted in the US, there was actually a time in the early 20th century when most of the scientific advances were made in Germany-and some of the technical terms you encounter in biochemistry reflects this. in fact back in the 30s, Germany's film industry was a close competitor against Hollywood especially with talent like Leni Riefenstahl.

Before 1933 Germany had won more Nobel prizes than any other country, and more than the US and UK put together.

German won't be lingua franca anytime soon.

i remeber when germany wanted its re-unification

europe (especially france) peed its pants. then they decided to only approve of the reunification if germany joins the currency union and is tightly integrated into the eu.

now people start peeing their pants again

I don't see Germany rise to such a status for the forseeable future. The national sentiment is simply too much affected by the ghost of Hitler. However I'd rather have the germans run the EU than the french.

Hitler was 3 generations ago (given a generation is normally 30 years) and by the 3rd generation which will be running Germany in the next 10 years or so would be happy to put the whole episode behind them and move forward, the rest of Europe however may not be in such a hurry to forget.

As long as it pisses of the Americans I am happy to give up my independence, democracy and freedom to my fellow Aryan Brothers.

That is true, but it should not revolve around international socialism as the current EU.
