Default Bah, lost a HD yesterday.

The one with RTW RSII and about 800gigs of other stuff

Had to reinstall on my primary HD and start over.

Funny thing though, as it was dying anything using graphics (video, games etc...) would freeze while the sound played. Thought my graphics card was the one dying. Thing is, the last time I was able to play RSII it froze on me and I cntrl/alt/deleted my way to the desktop to check on something and when I went back into the game half of Asia was under water

It was funny as hell being able to move ships miles inland and armies went through the water as well

Sadly, the drive died before I could save a screen shot

I was getting bored with my last campaign anyway.

Bummer, I've yet to have a HD fail and try to keep regular copies of my important files on an external hard drive and also copy the contents onto my laptop.

My original R:TW BI CD-ROM exploded in my hard drive on another PC a while ago. I wasn't even running R:TW at the stage as I was using Word for Windows. I heard a noise like something 'spooling up' and then heard a 'pop'. Strange, I didn't think PCs used valves...... The PC was still working so I could not work out what had happened. Then I opened my DVD-ROM drive tray and saw a mass of glasslike shards from the exploded CD-ROM. The DVD-ROM drive had to be scrapped. Basically, CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs develop cracks over time and I guess the speed that the DVD-ROM drive was spinning was too fast for the CD-ROM.....

Even if you saved a screen shot it would have been lost when the HD failed?

That is why Mr. Brusilov I made .iso's of the RTW cd's. And Bi and Alexander. That way I never have to use them again and I do not have to worry about them blowing up.

Well, it's only happened once. I had replacement copies ready - I'd bought various versions of R:TW Gold over time - also the cheap 'White Label' versions of the game.

The only problem is to ensure I know which disc was installed on which PC.

I had R:TW installed on my laptop but could not find the disc that would work with it. So, it was uninstall/reinstall time......

I have an Acronis True Image of my C: drive that I can use for when XP gets fubared but never got around to making an image of my secondary. Lesson learned.

Now that RS is installed on my main HD I'll be making a seperate image for it.

Well, it looks like "'ego vobis valedico" soon. I got the video skipping error on my main drive last night. I used a trial of Hard Disk Sentinel to check the drives health and estimate how long till failure, basically, it said "I dont know why its running now. Shoulda died last week!"

"This drive has been running for 1137 days and 7 hours. Days of life expectancy- 0"

Hopefully it will last another 10 days till I can get another HD to transfer the Images.
