Alright, that was very cool even though I didn't understand anything they were saying.

The uniforms are quite nice (but what are those crazy wild troops in Ottoman service supposed to represent?) and its great to see a film which focuses on the early renaissance Ottomans - something you won't see often.

Also, I lol'ed at how Suleiman delivers a passioned and heroic speech to his men, whereas Louis II (presumably) just yells stupidly and points his sword forwards

Could be "Deli" troops from Balkans. LOL, deli means Literally "crazy/wild/mad".

I lol'ed same for the speech. Ottoman Sultans are not known for their battle speeches.

Also, I think the opponent is the King of Hungary.

Were the Ottoman Sultans silent and imposing before battle? Never did anyone of them address speeches to the troops? Why?

I do not know any one giving speeches before battles. I imagine them silent and sober behind their janisseries.

Yeah it feels very biased...they might be trying to win the heart of audience, because in Turkey this show got very negative reactions from more conservative groups for "reflecting our ancestor's lifes bad"
"Therefore I am not in favour of raising any dogmatic banner. On the contrary, we must try to help the dogmatists to clarify their propositions for themselves. Thus, communism, in particular, is a dogmatic abstraction; in which connection, however, I am not thinking of some imaginary and possible communism, but actually existing communism as taught by Cabet, Dézamy, Weitling, etc. This communism is itself only a special expression of the humanistic principle, an expression which is still infected by its antithesis – the private system. Hence the abolition of private property and communism are by no means identical, and it is not accidental but inevitable that communism has seen other socialist doctrines – such as those of Fourier, Proudhon, etc. – arising to confront it because it is itself only a special, one-sided realisation of the socialist principle."

Would not the western troops use pikes and shot at this point? Or at least more pikes and less reckless charges into death.

Most history films don't like the idea of formations, unless its PHAYLANKS or TESTOODO

Ive never seen a believable phalanx, and testudos are always used in entirely wrong situations. Only movie that got formations almost right I've ever seen was is Trieste, that Spanish movie with Viggo mortensen. Honourable mention to the intro of the "Rome" series as well.

The best phalanx I've seen is in Alexander, and the best testudo........Troy

Yeah, the Hollywood Testudo is pretty damned disgraceful

Also, I think the opponent is the King of Hungary.
    Louis II of Hungary

Rome is a great series. The creators actually studied the subject and researched about what they were filming unlike many movies and series around.

I guess most, if not all national productions portray the historical enemy as an undisciplined, brainless lot, complete with "Hollywood Tactics". Not only Turkish films, but also most European/American/East Asian ones, even the more (would be) "serious" ones like Alexander. A lot of money has been wasted this way.
The only way to avoid this is, IMO, multinational productions, which have the added benefit of a larger budget. The War and Peace TV miniseries is a shining example.

You mean Alatriste. By contrast, Triest is a city.

Battle of Gaugamela in Oliver Stone's Alexander. Though the rest of the movie was controversial to say the least, the Battle of Gaugamela was worth the 8 Euros I payed for the ticket...

It's horrible isn't it? I would love to see a movie where they use formations properly, because you actually get an idea where the battle is going.
For every action there is an equal and opposite government program.

Even more, what speeches would be heard when iirc the ottoman idea of motivating the troops was one hour of zurnas and davul drums by the music corps.
