So considering the changes in BC 2.3, what are the top heavy cav units to use against heavy cav? It seems like K-Shah and Roman Kats are the best on default, but with the RBBR submod the Roman Kats seem weaker...

The roman Body Guard and K cavalry will kill 4 units of ur cavalry (heavy)if u dont coordinate their charge and execute them repeatedly... u cannot simple engage them...
I also noticed that the abbasid BD is one of the best cavalry units (by stat and performance) and rather cheap to maintain...ummm... Turks also have some good lancers and not to forget the crusader templar knights and nakhar (spelling?) armenian cavalry... That being said, the Mumluks are also good and absolutely dont come in last, perhaps after the roman cavalry... the ghurids have good cavalry (emirs guards) because they have "frighten infantry" skill and not to forget ghulams like senior ghulam or royal ghulam Or palace ghulam (even though being a horse archer) ..... wow thats a lot lol... basically.. my favorites are as follow
Roman BD
Royal Mamluks
Abbasid BD
Emirs Guards
Royal Ghulams
Senior Ghulams
aaand the turks I havent played (didnt play the game for a while now) soo.. I cannot really say but I can predict that they are a great competition to the romans
I totally agree with you about the heavy cav in BC, there are so many amazing (and beautiful) units out there that it can be hard to pin down which ones are the best. I've been playing with K-Shah (gotta love building an Islamic Sassanid Empire and then defending it against the Mongols) and it seems that their kats perform better on their own than those of the Romans (since they lack maces, the Roman Kats seem to be designed as the anti-cav specialists in the Roman Army). The bodyguards for the Romans are indeed killer in custom battle tests. I haven't tried the Ghorids before, but I love the frighten infantry attribute. The Turk bodyguards are quite amazing btw
Haha yeah those Elephants pretty much let me trash the Mongols last time I played as Ghazni
Those big boys are probably the best reason to complete the conquest of India...on a slightly different heavy cavalry (elaphantry and camelry count too) note: I've been doing some unit tests and I've found that the Royal Kataphratoi do the hit and run charge against other heavy cav very well...as long as I keep them out of a long drawn out melee their lack of maces does not matter as much. Its interesting how with heavy cavalry there are some units (like the Roman Kats) that require alot of micromanagement. Am I using the Kats correctly btw?
Any cav unit with spears as their main melee weapon will excel against other cavalry, even without the bonus against cavalry. This is because their spears give them a longer reach and enable them to attack enemies in front of them. So Khwarezmian and Roman cataphracts are the best.

the koj bodyguard is perhaps the finest, their charge and attack is very strong whilst still having plenty of armour
Also, I painfully learned that Faris Lancers eat other cavalry alive after nearly losing two units of Askari Nobles to one unit. That's because they lack secondary weapons for some reason and so just use their long lances.

monaspa lancers are very strong..
monaspa units in general are beautiful and effective, Georgia is my third fav these days aside from the Ghaznavids and Romans. Back to the Kataphractoi though, the key to using seems to either A: use their javelins to weaken the enemy before spearing them or b: charging into the enemy cav, withdrawing and repeating. Either way they are golden, but I do sort of miss them having maces (oh BC 1.05!).

thats why I like hippotoxotoi, watching them stab elite cavalry to death with spears is pretty funny
Hippotoxotoi are quite solid, but their lack of morale is sometimes a real killer when a battle goes on for awhile. The Faris lancers are scary against other cav! Fortunately for game balance they are not availible until the Earls Stables level. Kataphraktoi will lose in a drawn out melee with heavy spears but they can theoretically defeat any cavalry if one uses their javelins.
