Default Is revealing the map cheating?

I justed wanted to hear everybody's two cents on this. Who uses the "code" to reveal the map during campaign play? I haven't done it yet but I know for me, new to the game, it would be helpful to see where everybody is province wise, not so much army wise. I figure it actually makes sense that you might know who was in control of what province most of the time. What do y'all think? Am I being clear?

The way i figure it, you should be able to see along your trade routes. I mean, could your merchants not give you some info? So that's how I justify cheating Plus it's just nice to be able to see the beautiful map

Yes it is cheating but nobody really cares if you do. Using the toggle fow is fine, if you want to use it then use it. It doesn't really matter much.

i never use cheats because game is already too easy even on the VH/VH ... using cheats would make it less in teresting and less historical, unfair really to AI... all reasons i play that game would be gone by using 1 code ... =(

    Yes.

That's what watchtowers are for. And come on, the AI needs all the help it can get.

I consider that cheating by the letter of the law, if you will, but I wouldn't have a problem with it. I'm currently trying to beat the game with all the factions (in three RTW games) so that will probably go on for the next 5 years...*laughs*. After that though, I may play around with a lot of different codes and things.

Of course it is cheating some way, but I do not think it really matters, as long as one does not use it to watch every step of the AI around. The map itself should be no secret, as in real world it was very well known where which empire was situated etc etc...

If you want to have a look at the beautiful map, that's easy: just toggle_fow :original:

I wish that the normal map showed every empire and what they owned and where their cities are, but not show the gerrison and armies.

That would be historically realistic, because most empires --besides the Barbarians-- knew where their rivals held sway. And when Map information is given, it should show the garrisons and armies, but not what units are in them.

That's how I feel about it. I wish there was some hard code where you could see the general outlines of the empires, even if just on the minimap, with limited detail of course. Of course, it could be limited. Like someone else said, you'd probably know the extent a faction that you had trade ties with but might have just heard about Egypt on the other side of the map.

I don't use that b/c seeing all the color on the map that you haven't already captured makes it harder to tell where your small conquered lands are, besides, it's not like any computer enemies in that game can make an effective sneak attack through the fog on the map anyway right?

It doesn't matter. It's not like it helps you much. The only reason I have it on was because I wanted to see if the command worked. It did, and the console did not work to turn it off. So now I am permanantly stuck with the eye of Sauron being an ally. Without the orcs.

I've seen a lot of screenshots of players with the entire map revealed.
    It's cheating.
