I've loved the first few books, but the reviews for 8 dont look so good and I've heard that its downhill from there, should I read it or do you think it was dissappointing?

8-10 are a low, then it improves again.
They suffer from initial reviews where people were expecting so damn much and it wasn't enough. Also, the fact that you can read them all back to back pretty much knocks out all the downsides to each book. Read as a series, they fit in. Read as that book you've been waiting four years for and will have to probably wait another four years for the next? Not so much.
Also, Book 9...fourth best ending out of the current 12(13 if you count New Spring).
One thing is for certain: the more profoundly baffled you have been in your life, the more open your mind becomes to new ideas.

Let's think the unthinkable, let's do the undoable. Let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.
The reason why the mid-late books were boring due to the slow pace of the plot imo, I dreaded when the POV when back to either Egwene/Elayne/Nynaeve as the plot in Ebou Dar and Salidar was painful to read, seemed like I was reading normal everyday life a chick. Perrin's plot was also kind of slow as it takes him 2-3 books to do something, which you'll find out soon. Personally I found Crossroads of Twilight the worst and the most boring one of them all and it finally kicked up in Knife of Dreams.
People didn't like it because they wanted more Rand and Matrim. Instead they got the longwinded adventures of Egwene and Nynaeve.
Necessary for the plot, but a bad move to condense it all in one book.
Some day I'll actually write all the reviews I keep promising...
I have to admit I plowed through 8 and 9 pretty easily, but it was Crossroads of Twilight where I gave up. I'm not sure why. I just didn't have it in me to go on. I still wanna finish the series some day, especially since Brandon Sanderson is one of my favourite authors, but yeah. I'd have to get through book 10 first.
Book 10, Knife of Dreams, was pretty good, Jordan picked up the pace with the plot.
You mean book 11, Knife of Dreams? I guess that's a pretty good indication about how useless Crossroads of Twilight was.
My mistake then![]()
Yeah, but you can't be blamed for forgetting it. Most people only wish they could forget it, if not get their time and money back.
Reading book ten atm, just about 130 pages in and tbh its actually pretty good! Matt always manages to make me chuckle every page or two....that being said I'm glad to hear the books are better towards the end of the series.
@OP: I wouldn't give up, the series is too good for that!

How did I get into fantasy? I dont understand?
Wheel of Time is probably one of the least magical worlds out there. Just sayin'.

Oh cause I read the wiki and it said the series had a well developed magic system...
It has an easily explained magic system.
Eats, shoots, and leaves.
