Thread: Skyrim mods

I'm getting Skyrim tomorrow. Are there any must-have mods that you should install before you even boot the game up for the first time? I'd like to experience bethesda's game for a while before I install some of the more radical mods but, for instance, the UI mod I looked at seemed to be one that you just SHOULD install, regardless of whether you want to experience vanilla skyrim (as I kind of do, for a while at least). Are there any other recommendations?

Also, is there a kind of mod guide around. I remember there being a good one for Oblivion.

After trying Duke Patrick's combat mod for a while I have to say that it makes fighting much, much better. Recommend it to everyone.

I'd like to see variety of Alchemy labs, arcane enchanters, forges. Like in Skyforge you can craft Skyforge and Ancient Nord items, in every lab and enchanter you could do something else and could NOT craft something.

Is there a mod out there that allows you to block with dual-wield?

It shouldn't be as effective as normal blocking, but it should still be possible to block.

    Same when using onehanded/spell combo.

I can't wait till there's a mod that allows you to call for your horse. Nothing drives me crazier in Skyrim when your horse runs away from a fight and hides somewhere. It becomes a game of hide and seek almost every time.

Ha! Mine jumps to the fight even before me. I always ride him off fearing he might die. He's the darkbrotherhood horse afterall.

For a simple solution fast travel to the same location and he might appear.

After finding you couldn't fight from horseback, I haven't bothered with a horse at all. I did hop on one that I found in some camp, and he seemed to show up on certain fast travels, but I dont think he does that anymore. I found riding the horse kind of odd, where the mouse controlled looking + movement of the horse, I would've preferred to drive the horse with WASD, and look with my mouse.

I think you can with the extra hot keys mod (I have it linked in my voice thread), their new version puts your left hand 'down' when you press B which lets you block with the right. I've never tested it with dual wielding, but it works with left hand spells so it should work I'd think.

    I use it. Works well.

Only problem is if you download a mod that has multiple optional esps that you can only choose one of, it still automatically activates them all.

It's easy to deactivate the ones you don't want within the program but you have to remember to do it.
