Default Beta Release - FO 0.95!

    Important Author's Note (06/12/2017):
It's been some years since the last release. I didn't do any modding for a long time, and I don't play Total War anymore. Over the last months, I've been modding Stellaris, which offers amazing possibilities for modding. Nevertheless, I still hope to release something I can call version 1.0, and I've done some work, but it is slow, and I no longer remember the full vision I had when I made the mod. So it will mainly be polishing. 1.0 will include:
-Many corrections to language in building and unit descriptions
-All missing building and unit descriptions
    -More special historical buildings
-Hopefully, a bit more flavour to some of the governments that didn't get it before

I can also include bug fixes and any balance improvements that people recommend (as I no longer play TW, I will probably not find much on my own). Also, I don't check here very often, so if you want to contact me about anything regarding this mod, email me at pierre@dp4mail.com using the title "Fortuna Orbis - [whatever]". All spam will be ignored.

And so, on to the rest:

Salve Quirites! Hail Citizens of RTR! The time has come!

Fortuna Orbis has come a long way since the first Beta release, and is now nearing official release. The game is, by and large, stable and playable. Though work needs to be done on campaign balance, nearly all the vital ingredients are in place for Fortuna Orbis to work. There is still much work to be done, but the full release is, with luck, not too far away. In the meantime, enjoy!

    Credits

I have many people to thank who have helped make this project a reality. First of all, I would like to thank the RTR Team, Quinn Inuit and his ExRM Team, and Boom S, Antonov (Co-founder who helped make the map), Nighteye (Mauryan unit cards) and all others who have been part of the FO Team, no matter how short or long their time was. Then I'd like to thank and praise the RSII Team for allowing the modding community to make use of their environments, as well as allowing us to use a large number of their units. I'd like to thank AqD for giving his latest work to the community - I have used a number of them in the eastern factions. I'd like to thank the RG Team for allowing us to use their Mauryan units - though they have now been remade, RG influences can still be found on them, and I applaud the gesture. I'd also like to thank Finn McCumhail for letting me use and make possible for use his Indian portraits (all but the wife, son and daughter are originally his). Finally, I would like to apologise to anyone I have missed. If you PM me, I will be glad to add you to this list.

A list of units of which I have borrowed either all or part from other mods can be found in FO/Docs in excel format. Any units not on that list can be assumed to be made either by the RTR Team or by Boom S and I.

*That is to say, they are all on the same balancing system. That system may be subject to change, as I intend to do some vigorous tests on it. Anyone up for some multiplayer games?
**In doing so, bugs including the non-availability of mines and elephants in those regions have been fixed; however, the amount of income given by (especially naval) trade needs attention.

    Patch 0.9
    (10/06/2013)

-Revised and added to the strat map resources for the final 66 regions (this is vital for the game’s mechanics)
-Completed the mercenary recruitment groupings for all regions
-Fixed a bug in the ports’ coding and lessened their (still considerable) impact
-Redid the projectile ranges of units
-Some tweaks to the map, the most significant of which the enlargement of the northern Terra Incognita (Hyperborea)
    -Eastern Satrapies made rebel
-Some tweaks to the machinery of the Barbarian Minifaction

    Patch 0.95
    (05/09/2014)

    Major Features:
Map: Improved the map geographically and aestetically, and after scrutiny from several historians, completed widespread changes for a more historical map, including:
-Removed Panormus, Palmyra, Pessinus and two Indian settlements; added Hibernia, Chorasmia, Babylon, Naxos/the Cyclades, and Nisa
-New-look Germania: Southern Germania is now correctly Celtic, whilst other regions have more appropriate capitals
-Geographical tweaks to Asia Minor and the addition of Apameia-Kelainai
-New historically and/or archaeologically accurate Steppe settlements
-Added some missing lakes, a few rivers and a missing desert in central Asia
-Redrew many mountain ranges so they correspond better to reality and look better, and so the height and the impassible terrain match better (thus fewer massively sloping battles)
-Improvements to the strat map textures, especially in Mediterranean and Semi-Arid climates
-Changes to descr_geography for a less hilly battlemap
-Many tweaks, settlement swaps (e.g. Memphis for Oxyrhynchus, Cordoba for Ilipa) and aesthetic improvements (too many to list)
-Added RSII battle map textures as implemented in RTR-VII by Muizer, but with RSII grasses and water
    -Governments:
-Some global corrections and simplifications to the government systems
-Newly rebalanced and remade governments for Rome, Carthage, Arverni, Bellovaci, Celtiberi, Cherusci, Getai, Macedon, Achaeans, Seleucids, Ptolemies, Pergamon and Bactria (13 of 18 full factions).
-There are now considerable variations between these factions' governments - they are no longer generic
Starting Positions: The regions of descr_strat has been overhauled, with new buildings added to their settlements and adjustments to their armies, and some changes to ownership. In particular, the Seleucids are now a viable faction (if a tricky one).
    Economics:
-Complete rebalancing of all economic buildings
-New specialisation buildings for crafts and farming, and other new buildings
-Farming system now makes income and settlement growth more obviously dependent on the fertility of the settlement's lands
-Nomadic provinces now have their own nomad farming tree
-Also removed some unnecessary 'clutter' buildings (iron and timber import; their functions are now integrated into branches of the blacksmith and warport buildings)
-New slave economy building, allowing large increase in income at the cost of public order
Cultural Buildings: Now a far wider choice for each faction with newly implemented or corrected cultural buildings, including Indian ones unique to FO
Special Buildings: Added 30+ unique buildings to the game, some from RTR-VII, others with all new academically researched descriptions (e.g. Temple of Marduk in Babylon and Ma'rib Dam in Sabaea)
Temples: Redid the temple system with new temples and deities for all factions, and corrected priest ancillary allocation
Balance: Rebalanced units to allow for longer and more fulfilling battles

    Minor Features and Fixes:
-Converted from 4tpy to 3tpy to allow a faster-paced game whilst maintaining historical accuracy (i.e. speeding up the flow of years).
    -New Armenian symbol
-New extensive Seleucid campaign description and improvements to a few other factions'
    -Fixed epic Seleucid collapse
-Some fixes to Seleucid graphics (correction to starting map positions, and made government UI card darker so it is visible)
-Fixed a bug in the Belgae heavy cavalry sprite
-Many building UI fixes and improvements
-Added a number of missing building descriptions (more will follow in further patches)
-Corrected some descr_regions creator allocations (so regions will rebel to the correct factions)
    -Some new Carthaginian names
-Some AoR fixes (corrections in Syria and Mesopotamia, and Cyrenaeca; also some corrections to Persian roster)
-New Phoenician Citizen Infantry and Boii Warriors units
-Southern Terra Incognita is now properly inaccessible
-Fixed the Getic symbol turning up too small in some cases
-Gave the Seleucids Cilicia and Ionia
    -Many other fixes

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Final Words

Any content made by the FO Team in this mod is free for use by any modder, provided they inform me they are doing so and give me credit

Finally, remember that this is still a mod in development. I will take into account feedback I receive and make relevant adjustments/fixes. Despite recent advances, remember that this is still a Beta - though one with a steadily declining number of bugs.

UPDATE 17.6.2017. : New download link added for both v0.6 and v0.95: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1...jVOdWZ0b2xzSms

    0.6 Download Links

    DepositFiles

    Gamefront Four-Part Download*: 1 2 3 4

    Anonfiles Four-Part Download*: 1 2 3 4

*Gamefront and Anonfiles have limits on file size, and anyway, 1GB is a big download, so I've split it in four. Download all four parts (each are 200-300MB) and follow the installation instructions as normal. Note that you will have to extract all four archives.

    0.95 Patch Download Links

    DepositFiles

    Gamefront

    Installation Instructions

Unfortunately, I was unable to master the art of making an installer. But don't worry - the chosen alternative is not much more difficult.

    a) Installation from scratch, or from a pre-0.6 version

    1. Install RTW 1.5 and BI 1.6.

    2. Download FO 0.6, then place the rar archive (or, if you used Gamefront or Anonfiles, archives) in a RTW directory (eg Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\), preferably in the same one as you have VII, and extract the files using a program such as WinRAR or WinZip.

    3. Download the 0.95 Patch and extract it in the directory where FO is installed, overwriting the previous files if asked.

4.1. If you have RTR-VII installed, you can use the RTR Launcher (you may have to make a desktop icon for it. To do this, go to the launcher folder in the mod directory and find Rome Total Realism VII.exe, make a shortcut for it, and drag it onto your desktop screen) to launch FO. To do this, write "FO" in the other mods section of it. You are now ready to go

4.2. If you do not have RTR-VII installed, find RomeTW-BI.exe and create a shortcut for it, then drag it onto your desktop's background screen. Then right click on it, select properties and paste " -mod:FO -show_err" (without the "") at the end of the target line, behind the ".

    5. Enjoy

    b) Installation of the 0.95 Patch over a post 0.6 version

Note: The 0.95 Patch includes the content of all patches after 0.6.

    1. Download the 0.95 Patch and extract it in the directory where FO is installed, overwriting the previous files if asked.

    2. Go to FO\data\world\maps\base and delete map.rwm if you have already played before the latest patch.

    3. Enjoy

If you have any problems with the installation, or discovered any bugs, please post them in this thread

The next release will feature, at least, the Germans and Finn MacCumhail's Indian portraits, along with a number of fixes and all the units in the as yet unplayable factions which I haven't added yet (though this may not sound so significant, this will enable me to sort out recruitment and starting armies, which is the first step to having a playable campaign). There are about 8-10 units left to add (I've already added 5 since 0.5).

I have an interview at Oxford next Thursday and am trying my best to read 450 pages of stuff I should have read a while ago before then... another university also made me write an essay for them... so I'm not doing a huge amount of modding at the moment But I'll do more once I've done the interviews, and it won't be too long before I start on getting the campaigns working.

I'm reuploading right now This time on two different sites

I'm looking to study Ancient History or something similar (at Oxford, it is "Classical Archaeology and Ancient History").

The essay was for yesterday actually, so I'm in a bit less stress now... it wasn't really an essay, but three questions which amounted to 1,200 words. The first was why I wanted to study there in 200 words, then I had to present a topic of the Ancient World in 500 words (I picked the Marian Reforms) and then a book comparison in 500 words (I picked Robin Lane Fox's and Peter Green's books on Alexander the Great). The first question was tricky, since I haven't been there and am applying because the course looked good on the internet, and the other two were tricky because I had to limit myself...

Oxford, you'll be in some esteemed company. I would find that book comparison tricky- as I haven't had the pleasure of Greens book.

Btw, scratch that with the upload... I'll get it up this weekend sometime, but it was telling me it would take 9 hours!

Yeah, Oxford is rather special. In fact, I'm going to be interviewed by someone who's book I've read... but I don't think I'll tell him that, because I can't remember the specifics of what he wrote. Yeah, UCL looks very good. So does Durham for that matter. I'll have to see where I get into. I can recommend Green's book, but it's a good idea to read other books as well, or you will get quite a critical view of Alex. I would have like to have written a lot more, but there's only so much that fits in 500 words.
