Default Playing RTR VII as Sparta

The victory conditions are 10 regions and a list of towns (or are those land regions? hence why i cant find the towns)
I own the 9 immediate towns sitting "north" of sparta (the little round "island" like area region, forget its name, think it starts with a "p" ) (think i have 4 major,6 minor towns)

Anyhow I sent my diplomats running about north all the way to the barbs, sent my ships to the SE islands and looked to the shores across to the greeks/east. The names on the list for victory conditions Ive yet to see, so any guidance or help as to where i should be conquering would be much appreciated.

Either way Im having a blast. Had a nice 3 or 4 way fight for this region so far and still building up my economy and governments. Love the choice between spartan's and Helots Cant wait to try the Roman Faction. Took a peak at Carthage. This Mod is amazing.

spartans are the easiest, EASIEST faction in RTR VII

Periokoi Hoplite spam (with some occasional archers and cavalry thrown into the mix) = sure way to win

those buggers are simply too strong for their price

Hey, the mod should be fun for everyone. The Spartans are one of our easy factions, when you don't find that challenging try the Massily (Numidians)

I've kinda nerfed the Perioikoi for the patch They'll perform like regular hoplites from now on...

Ah thanks for the clarification on victory conditions. In short just conquer and have fun

I notice that now that I have 14 or so regions the money is pouring in faster than i can spend it lol. (not that i mind) I even for kicks made a stack of mostly archers and a few other missile and 3 hoplites. My missiles are just knocking the numbers out of units at a sick rate. Rarely does a unit get near my front line of 3 hoplites lol.
    (I use fire arrows)
And if they do, the fight doesnt last long.

Think i may jump into the fire and try the Massily

I actually suggest to either reduce their numbers, or raise their cost, while they are indeed OP in the hands of Human, playing as Antigonids, Achaeans, or Aiakideans, you don't want to simply slaughter spartans as cakewalk yes?

Actually, I'd much rather have Sparta being slaughtered than have Sparta slaughtering everyone else, as they tend to do at the moment I'm not sure we've quite fixed it yet, though... from the one test I've run, they still destroy the Achaeans early.

Heh, I have no problem with Sparta doing some fighting, smashing people up a bit etc. I mean, they did have the Achaeans defeated under Cleomenes before the Antigonids intervened. But I won't have them holding all of Greece by 250 BC

another trick how you can make sparta less strong: increase the construction time and the price of the perioikoi hoplitai (like I did)

Sparta is definitely overpowered at the moment. The Aitolians and the Achaeans are underpowered; they are wiped out rather quickly.

We actually did this on purpose to represent the dwindling number of Spartan Citizens around this time. I believe that as your empire grows you will be "gifted" more Spartan Hoplite units. I think that you get two of these units for every 10 settlements you capture. You stop getting them after 30 cities though. So you can have a maximum of 6.

actually I disband the spartan hoplites and skritai, they are sad excuse to exist and draining my poor economy but they are non retrainable

plus Spartan Hoplites are the same with their Generals' bodyguard, and they all frighten enemy troops, better use 2 FM's each on left and right of Periokoi lines (and FM version are actually STRONGER AND CHEAPER than supposed "unique" troops, so? *note if the next patch the spartan bodyguards are nerf-ed, I have nothing more to say... lol)

You should be able to retrain them in Sparta.

How anyone could disband the Spartiatai and the Skiritai is beyond me
As Caligula said, you can retrain both of them in Sparta. They are no big problem for the economy, you just have to be quick to capture a few settlements at the start of the campaign, but as soon as you've got Megalopolis and then Corinth you should be fine.
"Pompeius, after having finished the war against Mithridates, when he went to call at the house of Poseidonios, the famous teacher of philosophy, forbade the lictor to knock at the door, as was the usual custom, and he, to whom both the eastern and the western world had yielded submission, ordered the fasces to be lowered before the door of science."

yeah, I know, but even their retraining cost is....
so in my way, better make them disbanded since Skritai is no better than average elite hoplites, and Spartiates is the same with General's bodyguards of Sparta, even GBs are much better (albeit coming in smaller size but hey, they are automatically filled.

ofc, sometimes I'll gladly keep em as part of role-playing, but after a while, it becomes awkward when your FM's get too much and they function the same

You just have some Spartiates more then with all those FM's But yeah retraining for all elite units in RTR VII costs a HUGE amount of money
