    Default The Boii

I've been wondering now about these people and it keeps coming up to my mind the question: What is the point of having this faction in the game?

Is it simply to provide some historical accuracy or something?

I ask because you hardly hear anyone speak about them or play with them. I mean, i''ve gone through the "Post your empires" thread a few times and i think i've only seen the Boii posted there 2 times or so.

That and when you're playing with any other faction, the Boii - 99% of the time (in my campaigns anyway) - are completely destroyed (mostly by Rome). So i guess that means they're just fodder.

And when you're playing them, well, i guess there's not really much interesting or different about them. Their army setup is identical to that of the other Celtic factions ( Avernii and Belgae ). Only their starting position provides something distinct.

I've heard a few times that they're hard to play with, but im playing right now and they're not that challenging. Get rid of Bononia and you can avoid troubles with the romans early on.

I guess im trying to figure out what was the reasoning behind the selection of this faction.

You nailed it right there. And them surviving against other factions depends on many factors. For example when I play as Rome (I've already played many campaigns as them) almost every time the boii become a formidable force that I have to deal with. When I invade Gaul I usually have to eventually fight the boii because of their expansion. They are a strong faction.

There are probably a few boii players out there but they don't post any pictures.

I guess faction movements - that is the path to where they expand - are somewhat scripted. I've played a bunch of faction and about almost every time Rome expands towards the Boii and assimilates them and then usually moves towards Dacia.

They were the last "secret" faction announced from 1.6 to 2.0 if I remember. I think the reason they are used is historical but I would guess there could have been other factions used, the team wanted some kind of balance with Greek factions, Barbarian, HA and others with some a mix.
