Default Carthage is a pain (for me at least)

Firstly, love the mod, secondly im new at playing it. thirdly,Im playing as Rome and I let Carthage spread a bit and they took out the Galleci and are controlling most of the usual Averni territory, Im now at war with them and they seem to have a endless supply of full stack armies, we are stuck at a stalemate. Any advice?

This is with 1 turn recruitment and I have Post Marian armies.

Do a navel invasion and take out Carthage and Nouvo Carthage. Even if you don't intend to hold onto these settlements - you can wipe out the population and destroy all the buildings that will slow them down economically.

^Wrong. You cannot hurt AI economy no matter how hard you try.

My conclusion also, have now razed the entirity of the roman empire, and half again (to ruin the cities I took first that have had buildings re constructed) and they still field endless waves of full stacks. Quality of troops drops a little bit, but the numbers stay the same.

Naval landings are a more or less easy way to do it.
Just remember the enemy will be getting free stacks if cities you take rebel, which can defeat the purpose of the mission in the first place.

The faster you can take Carthage out the better.

Their troops are crazy strong and their cavalry can destroy roman cavalry.

Take them out and salt their lands

Taking their treasury should hurt them economically...

If not... wow, thats just sad.

split your army in two, take two highest command generals to lead campaign in both Spain and North Africa, if you have your savegame, I actually want it since it seems you're in pretty difficult situation (that'll be very challenging)

Then build up a navy at Rome. Don't even leave port until its strong enough to defeat their fleet.

I'm very sorry to say this: You should've taken out the city of Carthago immediatly AFTER you defeated Hannibal and crushed the rebellion of southern Italy.

I've started the Roman campaign 3 times now and every time I took Carthago when I first had the chance.

Every time I encountered several full stacks at Carthago, surely trying to take it back from me but I prevented them from doing that

Also, you said you were fairly new to this mod so it wouldnt hurt to try a few times before really going for a long campaign.. find out what works best for you and your playing style

Hope this helps and good luck

    Carthage is pain....
"pain" and "carthage" in same sentence?? :O I wiped out Carthage in first 50 turns, and then i rules hwole western map. Im my last campaign, after that, when i reinstalled RSII, save disappeared and i have to start again!!! Still, i beat Hannibal in our first battle, and now im going to gaul, i already took city of Carthage without too bad resistance. Only time i saw Carthage as feared enemy was in RTR VIII Fate of empires, where Rome and Carthage were only Super-powers
Apologies for anyone who's message i may miss or not be able to answer

Carthage is easy to wipe out if you take their population centers. Also it's good to start with destroying Carthage, as you can enslave them all and make Italy an economic powerhouse.
The only Carthaginian units which can give you trouble are the late libyan spearmen and sacred band. Elephants always panic and their cavalry is quite useless.

Sorry, but like...you have to sort of suck at this game if you can't beat Carthage with post Marian units. Hell, I beat up anyone with the Allied pre marian units. Just take Carthage, make it an allied province and recruit numidians, it isn't hard.

If you remove their cavalry from the field you will always win. That's easy with a good general and bodyguard.

Remember to put together versatile armies as well - always have cavalry support. Bring praetorians if you have to (although campanian cavalry should suffice). Bait them into the field, ambush them or use bridges and/or hilly terrain.

POINT - Regardless of what campaign difficulty you play at, the AI never misses a chance to try and completely destroy one of your armies. If you bring a half stack near and city, send it back out of line of site and form a full stack in ambush mode - the AI will chase you straight to the source most of the time.

Play dirty and actually conduct a campaign, lol.

Like some other guy said: "Carthage is a Pain" simply does not compute sir.

As I have said a billion times in other threads, As rome they should be the very first and easiest target imo. Right after the rebellion just send Scipio junior to Carthago and take it and hold it until you can spare more legions to rampage in N. africa. IF you try to go for their possesions in Iberia instead of N. Africa you'll just get into trouble with the Gallaeci way to damn early. Don't bother with greece or going beyond the alps until you have slaughtered the carthaginians. You'll see that N. Africa is extremely easy to hold since nobody will ever try to land there, not even the greeks or ptolemies trying to invade from that settlement between N. Africa and Egypt (Cyrene or whatever).
