    Default Seasons

Propably this question has already been asked a thousand times, but I wonder how to make 1 turn be a season, instead of a whole year. I'd love to change this for the Stainless Steel mod (6.4), which features 1 turn per year.

I'd love to have every year 3 turns summer (spring, summer and autumn), and 1 turn winter, because I don't really like fighting in the snow 50% of my battles, and I'd love to have my generals live longer, and my campaign last longer.

I heard the events etc. are all numbered by year in the descr_events file, so I don't think that would cause problems.

I know how to change turns per year (changing timescale in descr_strat), but I think you will than just have 1 turn summer - 1 turn winter - one turn summer - etc.

Is there a way to make this season idea work? and is there a limit to the amount of turns in a campaign?

Have a read through this, it will basically be the same for 4tpy game. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...t=4+tpy+script

    Thanks, this was very helpful

couldn't have had an easier solution

Could this changing of turns per year in any way alter the campaign?
I mean events etc., I think they are bound to the year number, and not to the amount of turns, but I'm not sure...

I know there will probably be only a couple of very strong factions after like 50 years or so (200 turns yea), that doesn't really bother me, that's quite logical I guess. But are there any other side-effects I should keep in mind when having altered the turns per year?

    No, events will be unaffected!

Building times, recruitment times and costs, may lead to balance issues, but as with everything in modding, balance and testing will need to be done!

    I'd rather suggest a 3tpy sistem.
I know it may sound strange, but I always feel like 2 turns per year are too little (cannot develop my generals) while 4 are too much (children never come on age: you need to past 72 turns for each new born). You could make 2 summers and one winter, so you still have to fight 1/3 of your battles under the snow (instead of almost any). Just a suggestion.

And remember to change the tresholds in the descr_character_traits for "seasonal" traits (like supply system) or you may see weird things...

    What does this Treshold mean?

I just took a look at it and it says like "Treshold 6" at the trait "goodCavalryGeneral", while as far as I know this is a trait that stays for a the whole life period of a general

I think I know, it means it can occur after this amount of turns/years (like "old merchant" after 13 turns/years). I don't speak english as my mother tongue so had to look up the meaning of "treshold"

does the treshold-thing count the amount of years the (for example) merchant has been in the running, or the amount of turns. I don't know because years and turns is the same in Stainless Steel

and I don't immediatly see any seasonal traits in the file, could be however. Can't see how this would be a problem however IF treshold counts in turns as Killic Ali seems to suggest

I doesn't have anything to do with age/turns, it means you have to have earned 6 "GoodCavalryGeneral" points to get the trait.
Every Time your general does something certain"triggers" will activate and add a certain amount of points towards a trait. So winning a lot of battles with a cavalry heavy force will give you the trait.

So changing tpy won't actually ruin the trait system? I mean I won't be seeing merchants of 30 years old getting traits like "old merchant"?

2tpy will give you proper aging.

Anything else for proper aging you have to script.

I know 2tpy would probably give me a more enjoyable aging but want my campaign to be much longer, with much more summer than winter, and spending longer in a certain time period.

My question was just: when changing the tpy, should I also change some countings in the trait/ancillary files?

I don't think there's a difference on that part between 2 or 4tpy because Stainless Steel is originally 1tpy

This really is up to you!

With more tpy generals will live longer, so they will gain more traits and ancilliaries over the course of game.

That doesn't really bother me, I can live with that

It's just: if you know Stainless Steel, you know there are traits that give certain agents over the age of like 50 years the trait of being old, and thus having less movement points than when being younger.

Wow, really glad this thread came up. I just downloaded SS6.4 yesterday and aboslutely love the mod and the work, incredible.

However, like you Faldor I'm not a fan of the 1tpy. My general walks through half a province and hes aged a year.. hmm.

I will keep a close eye on this thread, would love a non-flawed script or guide for 3tpy or even 4tpy.

I think for now I will try the 2tpy, I can live with that.
