    Default Strategic map custom models

I have a quick question concerning the custom settlement models on the strategic map... given that the generic models change according to the settlement level and culture, would it be possible for some of the custom models to change as well ? The most important would be, of course, Minas Morgul and Barad Dûr, one turning into Minas Ithil, the other one being destroyed. But there are others... the Black Gate, and Minas Tirith, and Edoras...

It is clear it may, at least, be done in the same way the sub-mod that changes flags and names of the FPE to Arnor via the .bat launcher uses :

But maybe there are better possibilies ? I also made black alpha chanel for the Black Gate, it made the texture fully transparent... but the shadow of the model was still there maybe it would be possible to change the model for a village with transparent texture for destroyed Black Gate and Barad Dûr...

How about Cirith Ungol? It was a Gondorian fort by origin as well.

Yes, it is possible. But you need to make the strat map models and skins first, then add them to models_strat/residences and probably do some shuffling to make them all fit. Then code them in to descr_strat and make it so they are not fully upgraded already. You can script it so it changes when captured or something. But to keep it from "upgrading" on its own due to population growth you will have to add negative growth to a building or similar.

And then there is the Battle Map as well if you want to defend it.

What if the Final Upgrade can only be aquired by Gondor, perhaps have it where in order for Gondor to have Minas Ithil it had to build a specific building that only Gondor can build that would trigger the Final Upgrade?

That would be a very good solution of course. The Battle Map is the second step. Any experiences with triggering these things ?

Taji made Castle Upgrades where you had to have the Drill Square as well as the right Population Limit in order to unlock the Next Upgrade.

Could there be a way where you could demolish the Mordor Barracks and building Gondors Barracks becomes the trigger to activate the Minas Ithil reforged Upgrade i.e Huge Walls/Citadel Upgrade?

Then there is King Kong, where he has Osgiliath W/E 'ruined' AND 'rebuilt', maybe he might be able to shed some light on this?

This could solve both battle map and strat map, IIRC.
As the battle map also depends on the 'upgrades'.
But when Custom Settlements come, there might be problems.

But also, are we out of 'cultures' that provide the custom skins yet?

If it was close to the book, Minas Morgul would be destroyed as well, not rebuilt.

Only Barad-Dur and the Black Gate were destroyed. Probably because they were made with the power of the ring. Minas Morgul was built by Men and was left alone for many reasons, they only set fire to the valley in front of it and moved on. They eventually retook it like a hundred years later, intact.

No Strider says it should be destroyed at his coronation.

Google it if you don't believe me.

"Following the War of the Ring, the bridge leading to Morgul Vale was pulled down by the Army of the West and its fields set aflame, and they met no opposition as the entire city's garrison had been killed at the Battle of Pelennor Fields. Minas Morgul abandoned and fell into decay as it had become too foul for mannish habitation. After the War of the Ring, Faramir was made Prince of Ithilien by King Elessar, who advised him to make his abode in the Emyn Arnen southeast of Minas Tirith. Faramir ruled from there with his new bride Éowyn, for King Elessar counseled that even though Minas Morgul was completely abandoned, the land was such a terror on the minds of Men that it would not be fit for habitation or even mannish contact for many years. Eventually, the city was rebuilt as Minas Ithil and the evil that tainted the land was at last gone."

Even if they had wanted to destroy the city, they would not have been able to. The walls were made by Numenoreans and were practically indestructible. So that means they would just destroy the Orc buildings inside the walls, leaving most of the city intact.

From a wiki anyone can edit?

You may try the other wiki :

At his coronation, King Elessar also decreed that Minas Ithil in the Morgul Vale be utterly destroyed and cleansed, and no man would be allowed to live there for seven years, and maybe more, depending on the evil influence of the haunted city. It has not been made known whether Minas Ithil and Osgiliath were ever rebuilt, as the major population of Ithilien became based around Emyn Arnen.

I put this part for a reason "Even if they had wanted to destroy the city, they would not have been able to. The walls were made by Numenoreans and were practically indestructible. So that means they would just destroy the Orc buildings inside the walls, leaving most of the city (walls, old foundations, tower) intact." Seeing as the strat map model for Minas Morgul is just the walls and tower, it would look about the same after being cleansed except for the color. It is a lot of work to make and code in the models, so why make one that will only be used for like 10 turns?

And from a gameplay perspective you can only have so many custom strat map models, so I would personally use them on something better than a destroyed Minas Morgul.

If I remember well the Black gate was built by the Gondorians and so was Durthang, the tower of Cirith Ungol and the towers of Teeth. Only Barad Dur was built with the power of the one ring...
No one knows what happened to Minas Morgul. The certain thing is that it remained deserted for many years. In the new shadow the only text that speaks of the Fourth age it is clear that Minas Tirith remained the capital of Gondor. so Osgiliath was not rebuilt by the time of Eldarion [about 150 to 200 of the Fourth age]. and it is impropable that the Gondorians would rebuilt Minas Ithil before Osgiliath...
Let’s keep enjoying kings and wizards. But also remember to keep them where they belong.
Where they can do little harm.
    Where they entertain us.

    In fantasies...

I'm sure Aragorn said to the people wait many time before settling in Minas Morgul again.

Its possible that Minas Tirith was the capital even after Osgiliath was rebuilt Aro
Under the patronage of Finlander. Once patron to someone, no longer.
    Content's well good, innit.

Anything is possible... except the change of textures based on the settlement ownership ...even Minas Tirith might use some dark texture when under occupation by evil forces, etc. I am afraid there is no better solution than the .bat launcher.

I agree most likely Osgiliath was a minor city that time as it was not fully populated and rebuilded
