    Default RAID Goodness

I have been doing some research lately (as I am planning to get a new machine by years end) and came across an interesting new product.

    http://www.xfxforce.com/web/product/...urationId=1089

XFX Revolution Raid controller. I currently have a RAID 0 setup at home, and this card seems like it would solve the 2 problems I have with my current incarnation of RAID. A dedicated storage processor, I was dismayed at the fact that pretty much all SATA raid controllers on current motherboards require cpu power (which is better used for rendering) to run the array. The 2nd problem it solves is having to have specific drivers for the controller, this can be a pain when setting the array up, but this card takes care of that for you and your drive array should show up as a normal IDE drive. I am also glad to see it does RAID 5, as I am looking at getting a 4-drive RAID 5 array going, due to the fact that 300gb drives can be had for less then $150 a piece.

I am definately going to pick up one of these, assuming the price point stays around $200.

what are your thoughts on moving to hardware RAID?

Have you ever considered building your own NAS (network attached storage) server?

Take a look at this URL:
