Okay, so I have searched pretty far back and the last thread that dealt with L&O pretty much died last year.

Now, as many people know, the Law and Order franchise is sort of on its last legs here in America. Criminal Intent ended this summer, Law and Order Los Angeles got cancelled after its first season, and, of course, the original L&O ended last year after twenty years. Conviction and Trial By Jury were both failures. Now the only Law and Order in America is Special Victims Unit, which happens to be my favorite, followed by Criminal Intent. Elsewhere, Britain, France, and Russia have their own shows, and I believe that a new one is being produced, set in Cape Town, South Africa.

In any case, I believe that a franchise of this size deserves its own appreciation and discussion thread. With over 900 hours of televised programming, and spanning 21 years, there is no question it had a significant impact on television.

So, what is/was your favorite show, and who is your favorite character?

My favorite character by far is Stabler, and I already said SVU is my favorite.

Also, for fans of Law and Order UK, how good is it? I have never watched but I might consider trying it out.

There are way too many crime series these days, as a result anything thats a crime serie does not interest me anymore, it all looks the same to me.

I will actually agree with you on this one.

But I enjoy SVU and Criminal Intent. I don't like the original all that much because I don't like half the episode being court scenes...Lol.

I can't stand CSI or any shows like that...

Really? No fans of this franchise on here? I know there are a lot of Europeans on the forums, but I would assume some of them might watch the overseas L&O and be willing to discuss this...Lol

Yeah I'm a pretty big fan of SVU though I'm not sure why Trial by Jury didn't make it as I enjoyed that one. As far as characters go, it's hard for me to pick. The choice is either between Vincent D'Onofrio as Robert Goren in CI or or Mariska Hartigay as Olivia Benson in SVU. I absolutely love D'Onofrio's style and the sort of character he portrays, but on the other hand Olivia Benson is probably one of the most genuine characters in a detective series ever. Like, I could imagine her actually existing.

Overall I think SVU wins out over CI in terms of how much I enjoy it, especially since CI tends to already show you who the bad guy is beforehand.

Goren is a close second for me...When I finally started getting into the show (watched it every once in a while for a long time), I couldn't believe how amazingly he brought the character to life. It's a shame he had to leave the show for a while...
