    Default Arab-American Psycologist Wafa Sultan

There was a video circulating on the internet from Memri TV which invited an Arab American Psycologist by the name of Wafa Sultan on thier show. She made a statement on it which filled many Arabs/Muslims full of rage, but the question is if what she says is true and the arabs/muslims just need to accept as valid or did she cross the line?

This is the link to the video:

Some more information can be found at:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wafa_Sultan

I suggest going to the wiki link first to get some context for the whole situation, then watch the video and draw your own conclusions.

    Let the debate begin!

edit: I'm sorry it was on Al Jazeera not Memri.... Memri is the network that provided the english subtitles

I think if she wasn't Arab nobody would take her that serious.
She obviously has some issues against her home country, and it's major religion, but can't we find a person like that from any country?

I think the "clash of civilizations" theory is bull too, but there is already a thread about that.

I do want to add that she only views the conflict from one side, while I think both sides are in part to blame.
The West in the first place for colonizing the ME, and then overthrowing democracies in support of tyranies (think: Shah).
The reaction my the people in the ME isn't that good, but what do you expect if you leech off their oil for decades without giving some of the profits to the people.
The only people in the ME getting rich from oil are the US/Brittish installed dictators, and this is the true root of the conflict.
This is also what drives the people into the hands of terrorists/fundamentalists.

I wouldn't be surpirsed if her daddy happens to be part of the ruling elite who keeps their own people poor and the westerners pleased. (she must be thinking: those COMMONERS are just barbarians, not the ruling elite who denies them education because that would eat away some of the millions they make each day)

I think gasstations should put out signs:
"We have the lowest prices because none of if goes to feed, shelter, or educate the people who live on the oilfields we exploit"
Then come back to her and ask her if she still thinks it's all the ME's fault.

She has had many death threats issued against her already, and has to frequently move, hide her location, etc.
I've read other stuff she's written which describes how her house was blown up by Muslim radicals as a child (killing the rest of her family), and every night she would dress in her funeral attire expecting them to find her in the destroyed rubble of the house and execute her (all this simply because they were Christian). She's a brave woman to speak out, and all she gets in return is death threats from the Muslim world, and derisive dismissiveness from too many in the West...

The root of it all is religion.
Religion might have encouraged progress when we were uncivilized and knew little of the sciences, because through creating the desire to get closer to god it encouraged exploration of the sciences, arts and government itself, but we have already outgrown the limitations set by religion (Islam, Christianity and Judaism). The Jews were the first to outgrow it, followed by the Christians, and the Muslims are now having a difficult time abandoning it, which is understandable because generations of passed down beliefs are not easily disregarded.
As soon as we cast off the oppressive cloak that is western monotheism, we can evolve truly.
Notice the religions of the far east, not a single one of them has provided extra incentive for growth of civilization, but not a single one has limited it either.

Funny how the Muslim world goes from the most advanced, humane, and tolerant to... this.

Well, not funny, it's actually rather sad.
