    Default Reinforcements don't arrive!

I don't understand why. I have RTW 1.5 vanilla, and every single time I am sieged, and a attempt to relieve the siege with an outside army, my reinforcements, that is, the garrison that was under siege, fails to arrive on time.

Not only that, it happens to the AI as well. I sieged the Britons as the Germans, and they sent one lone unit of head hurlers at my army. Their much larger army under siege fails to arrive, and I cut the head hurlers down with ease...

I don't understand why this is happening... I can understand it if it was once in a while, but this has happened every siege I had recently... Can anyone explain why? And does anyone else get this problem?

i get this problem with every battle as well...reinforcements are bummers!!!!
wait your on about RTW, im on about BI, in RTW i never had a problem, with BI its every battle, every seige, gets annoying when it hits me, but somes times it helps when ther other army would crush u with a 2v1 but 1v1 then anotehr 1v1 battle you can defeat them easily....is it a bug?

For the Briton thing... I guess you attacked the head hurlers with the city nearby. Therefore, the city were reinforcements? As in real life, they just don't arrive sometimes, I think its random. Obviously, if the army is too big, they won't all enter the field, aswell.

The head hurlers attacked me actually... The AI is rather suicidal..

Actually, after reading Gillam's post, I'm thinking of something. Recently I added night battles in my campaign through adding the options_bi in the desrc_strat folder. Could that be the reason?

If a general with night battle capabilities attacks you at night, and the reinforcements lack that night capability, they never show up, yes.

Not a bug I think. You can exploit that feature yourself, too.

Nope, the battle was in full daylight...
Well, I can understand it to be somewhat realistic if it happens once in a while... but everytime?

The time they arrive is random, I think. Usually, that would fall later in the battle.

Besides, why the hell would an entire army want to reinforce a bunch of headhurlers anyhow

Yeah, they probably just laid out their lwan chairs on a nearby hill and watched.

Anyway, it is always random when reinforcements appear. I once got jipped when it seemed like the enemy reinforcements wouldn't come but then they came up right behind my forces as they were getting into formation!

    Hi

I have not had this problem. I play RTW V1.5 - No mods of any kind.

Occassionally a farm or rock on the edge of the battlefield delays or prevents reinforcements entering. This is a physical and visible barrier.

I believe there is an option in RTW to allow limited or unlimited numbers of troops on the battlefield. Could it be that if you play with the 'limited' option that reinforcements cannot enter because they would breach that limit ?

I'm sure reinforcements are triggered as soon as you kill a certain percentage of the opposition's army. Then they should enter the battlefield from the side which they started on the campaign map. This is why it seems like an age before your own / the AI's reinforcements arrive, if they arrive at all.

There may be other things involved as well before the arrival of reinforcements, such as a random time countdown or percentage losses of your own army instead of the AI's, but I'm not sure which are definately involved.

I find out AI probably would decide whether the reinforcement enter the battle or not. I remember there was one battle I fought with Thracian, the battle plan shew that there were three different armies of enemies joined the battle together, yet in the end only two of them really joined the battle.

I play RTW 1.5 Vanilla; and, like Severous, I have no problems with timely reinforcements arriving.

There is an option you can select in the pre-battle summary screen, about whether to allow AI control of reinforcements. If you do not allow AI control of reinforcements, you have a hard limit of 20 of your faction's units on the field.

If you already have 20 units (and don't completely lose any units) then reinforcements will never arrive. If you have less than 20, then as many reinforcing units as will fit under the 20 unit total will be added to your command, and you will see their unit cards appear in your unit sumary window. If you lose units during battle, more reinforcements will be added to keep you at your 20 unit limit, until reinforcements are exhausted. However, these units will stand there and do nothing unless YOU give them orders.

If you check the box to allow AI control of reinforcements, then you should see all of them, typically seconds after the battle starts (even when they are coming from inside town). Depending on the map, it might take a while for them to get to you. Check the map borders, just after battle start: You should see the units, just outside the playable area of the map; and if you drag the mouse pointer over them, you should get the message, "these units have not yet joined the battle," or something like that.

Reinforcements can be held up as a result of your computor not being able to handle to many men at once. it's just the way the game reacts to your comps capabilites. i can have upto 10,000 men at once but anything over that and i get the bad omen's message. This happens more often in bi, especialy when a full horde attacks one of my cities,

Hmm I wonder if the "allow unlimited men on battlefield" line in the preference.txt has anything to do with this?
Just to be sure someone could try and set it as true and see if it changes anything. I have allways played with it as true and have never had any problems with reinforcements not arriving.

with the 1.5 patch in place it does seem to take a lot longer for reinforcements to arrive. Before i put 1.5 in when a routing unit left the battlefield it would be pretty much immediately replaced with a reinfocement unit. With BI in place this replacement process can take several minutes.

I'm pretty sure that "allow unlimited men on battlefield" only effects the number of AI controlled men (yours and the enemies)

    Hi

On RTW V1.5 (No mods) I dont have re-inforcement problems.

Here there are 20 enemy units in the first army of Pontus and 16 in the second army. All are on the battlefield.

Last night I had this battle. The reinforcements took a long time to arrive but it was due to physical obstructions. This is the most extreme obstruction I have seen in any battle. All managed to pathfind a way on to the battlefield.

Also unique was the dog unit captain earned man of the hour despite the presence of another of my generals in the battle.
