Awesome work here! I feel disappointed for the general disinterest about the Crisis of the Third Century Period, as its one of the most fascinating eras of Ancient history, with such memorable figures such as Aurelian, Claudius Gothicus and Zenobia.

The modders are truly conveying the feel of this transition period of the Roman Empire, from the Augustan era to that of Diocletian and Constantine.

    +rep!

Great preview, it looks stunning people One question though, how are you going to simulate Zenobia's control over the empire? Is she going to be a playable character? or is it her son that is king at game start?

    Well done once again!

For now, the answer to that question is:

We're working on a couple of options, but whatever we decide to do in the end, we'll do our best to portray the "situation" as good as possible.

Well, I must admit I've been expecting this one eagerly ever since it was first announced - the time period is certainly one of my favorites.

Now, even though I'm sure we're still a looong way from release (), it's good to see the hype kicking off (and building up) - at last - with this great first official preview! Beautiful stuff!

And though I'll certainly be with Aurelian all the way (for the first campaign at least), I'm sure I'll give these Palmyrenes a spin (if they're AOR, all the sooner ).

There's one thing though that makes me skeptical about the Aurelian campaign - Aurelian managed to restore the empire in just 5 years; in SAI it took my Julian more than 30 to reunite the empire (starting from 357). How will you deal with this discrepancy between game time and the RL "lightning speed" campaigns of Aurelian's times?

PS: Keep up the good work - will be waiting for the Roman preview.

    We honestly don't know.

Well, how long it takes for the human player to achieve something really depends on a lot of things: the level of difficulty, how many turns per year, and, of course, the player's own skill. One must also not forget that a modification is not a historical reenactment of how things went, but rather a way of setting up from a historical starting point and then ask: what now?

Yup, what you say is true... So, just to make my point, keep in mind that I was referring to my SAI campaign played on H/VH (campaign/battle) and 4TPY (can't play any mod on 2TPY anymore). I think I'm skillful enough (I've been playing TW since Shogun TW - the original I mean ), but I suppose it's true I hate bltizing the AI (I usually do things slowly and methodically on the campaign map) - it's also true that my campaign didn't benefit from the script *helpers* that would deliver whole regions to my Julian on certain conditions (eg capture Ravenna gives you Italy - I think), so I had to conquer one city at a time.

Anyway, those are the details, and the point I'm trying to make is that I don't want my Aurelian to die of old age before reuniting the empire, since at the beginning of the campaign he's already 55 y/o!

true i'm now playing with Julian again i simply like the guy with 12 tpy at this time i already conquered Italy...well striking at ravenna first in 355 helped but anyway the interesting about this mod's is even if is in fiction you can change history on your own...that cool...because i bet that anyone some time in is life will dream to change is own history i think.

I've done them with pure artistic license. I've done a set of late Antiquity historical portraits, and the ones showing here's just two of them. The rest can be found in the The Late Antiquity Historical Portraits thread ( link ).
