It has pixel shader 2.0. But if you want to get a graphics card for that price, you are going to be much better off getting a Geforce 6200. It has pixel shader 3.0, and it performs better than Radeon 9800SE.

Or for a little bit more, a 6600. Which I really suggest, its 2x faster than the 9800SE and 6200.

Its refurbished, but that just means it don't come with any driver CD and stuff. You should download the newest driver when you get the card anyway.

Im not very sure on buying from newegg is it trust worthy?

EDIT: with the 6600 it says that the minimum system requirments are as follows

    System Requirements AGP 8X slot
CD or DVD ROM for software installation
    64MB system RAM minimum
30MB free hard disk space minimum

But im not sure if my AGP slot is 8X
i think its 4X. How do i check what AGP thing i have?
and if its 4X of 8X?

    Thanks

I was exactly in this situation. I had AGPx4 and wanted to buy a 6600. Eventually I decided to get a whole new computer with PCIE and 6600GT.

AGPx8 cards might work on AGPx4, but it's not recomended.

    Test #1= 8X AGP
    3D Mark 2000= 20,744
    3D Mark 2001= 23,817
    3D Mark 2003= 12,254

I went into my bios and set my AGP buss to 4X, verified in driver control panel & benchmark details. I wasn't able to test at 2X AGP because my MB has no setting for 2X. I know in the past there wasn't much difference between 2X & 4X AGP.

    Test #2= 4X AGP
    3D Mark 2000= 20,143
    3D Mark 2001= 23,711
    3D mark 2003= 12,211
I think that speaks for itsself

But it doesn't always work (depends on the motherboard I think), and if it doesn't, the shop usually doesn't give refunds.

I'm pretty sure 9800 is better than 6200, but I never had ATI. Yes, 6200 supports SM3, but is too weak to use it.

Well this is the SE version, not the Pro. So it's hard to tell. There aren't really any benchmarks online for cards that weak.

The SE version is a very very stripped down version of the 9800, its memory is only 128 bits, and it only has 4 pixel pipelines. The nVIDIA 6 series is more efficient than the 9x00 series, so even though they got the same number of pipelines, the 6200 is still going to be a little faster. Also tFighterPilot, I think you ment HDR, that the 6200 is too weak to use. But SM3 actually improves performance, so its actually a plus for the 6200.

Does it? Because that sounds kinda odd to me. SM3 rendering requires a lot more calculations than SM1 or 2. How could it be an improvement?

I really can't explain this well, so heres a quote from guru3d.com.

If you program or play computer games or even recently attempted to purchase a video card, then you will have no doubt heard the terms "Vertex Shader" and "Pixel Shader". The step from 2.0 to 3.0 was a small one and most Shader Model 2.0 games can easily be upgraded to Model 3.0, which can bring more performance to that gaming experience. DirectX 9 was recently updated and we are going to see more and more support for 3.0 Shaders.

Is SM 3.0 technology a huge visual advantage over 2.0? Nope, not even the slightest bit. Yet any technological advantage is always welcome and preferred over a previous generation's development. What you need to remember about Shaders 3.0 is that it can and will be used only in several critical places where it can give a performance boost and graphics cards are all about performance my friends. Both ATI and NVIDIA now offer Shader Model 3 support in their new products. GeForce Series 6 and newer models and for ATI their X1000 series and newer models.

Just get a 6600 or 9800pro. Both are decent cards. i had a 9800pro before I bought my x800XL, and it did well for me in all my games.
