Default Very irritating: garrison troops dissappearing

    Hi All,

I'm playing England on very hard / very hard and I have this extremely annoying problem: troops from my garrison in both Bern and Rheims disappear streadily.

There is no population decrease and no plague. All my cities are frequently at war with Danish (b*st*rds), Portugese, Roman and Spanish forces and there appears to be nothing special about these cities.

Simple example: I have 6 units of 60 Yeoman Archers each. One turn later, all units have 54 men left. One turn after that, only 42. What on earth is happening? I get no message nothing.

It is very irritating as the game hard enough by itself :-s

    Anyone familiar with this?

    Thanks,

    Dwars

It appears to be plague, or a siege.
But if the settlements are not infested or besieged, it doesn´t make sense...
Have you tried disbanding the garrisons and recruiting new ones? No special reason to why you should, but the whole problem just seems very confusing to me...

Ah ... being besieged cost your garrison troops, even before the attack? That might be it.

Nice avatar name btw "senshi". Haven't heard that a while since I left Japan. :-)

    Thanks.

Yes, when your settlement is besieged, your soldiers die off due to starvation.
You can use the same thing to weaken enemy garrisons before assaulting their settlements.

And Senshi would rather be my avatar title.

    But still, thanks

...Which I find strange. Shouldn't soldiery be the first to receive the rationed food?

Well, yeah, I think so too.

I reckon it might be so, that the soldiers die off due to starvation (which would also include old age, accidents and thriving diseases), and with access to the countryside cut off, there´s no automatic recruitment to fill the gaps of missing soldiers.
