What do I get

Ok so ive been playing RTW for a long time. Ive beaten the vanilla game plenty of times, and now I want to look into a mod and was wondering if anyone could reccommend a good one. Basically what I want in the mod is for there to be just 1 roman faction not the 3 families. A little more realism and harder battles plus a longer campaign. Nothing to fancy that adds like dozens of extra units though just a few is good. Also maybe a few more factions? Anyways if you could leave recommendations here and why you think I would like it I would greatly appreciate it.

Rome Total Realism hands down lol. You described everything that's in it. It focuses on not only realistic battle-field combat, but campaign management as well. There is only one Roman family. For there to be public order in foreign settlements you need to tear down the barbaric structures and implement your own policy. You also have to play by senatorial positions (Consuls, Praetor, etc). Controlling family members and positions is very important. I still play basic Vanilla because I love running through campaigns, but RTR is what you want for great realism.

RTR however has a complete remake of every single unit... so I'm not sure there. There are a hell lot of factions in RTR as well.

Ok so ive decided to try RTR but there are so many damn links!! So many different downloads and types of the mods which one should I get?

There are the old ones, however, you should go for the RTRVII series (preferably VII itself)

There's RTRVII: TIC (The Iberian Conflict, Iberia)
RTRVII: FOE (Fates of Empires, Western Mediterranean)
RTRVII ("Grand Campaign", Westen Mediterranean, the Balkan and Gaul)

You're probably looking for the last one, RTRVII
