Hey guys,
I have a neat idea for a M2TW Mod, but can not do everything alone, so I'm looking for Team Members and Advice.
First of all, the idea. I have created a Fantasy-Universe with a friend of mine, and since we're fans of the Total War series, I think it's not a bad idea to start thinking about a mod. Since I never really played Empire or Napoleon or Shogun 2, and I like M2TW for what it is, I guess it'd be best to just start doing a mod for that. I have an original map, which I will recreate for the mod in M2TW standards if this project will start, and about 30 unique original factions to go with.
I will describe these factions breifly below, so you can see if you're interested in building this project. It will involve a huge amount of fantastic creatures of different sizes, and I hope there is a chance in creating flying units (like Eagles, Rocs, Harpies and the likes) and units able to cast some sort of magic (shamans, wizards, sorceres, necromancers, etc.).
If these two are not possible, it's totally manageble to rearrange a couple of factions based on those two things into other factions.
I guess the mod would lose some of its "magic" without those units, but definitely not all of it, since the map is quite interesting and presents a lot of strategic stuff to it.
I can post a rough sketch of it I did in paint some years ago, or a scan one of the drawing I made of it if anybody is interested in the project.
But let's move on to the factions.
Warg Riders
This is a faction of orcs and goblins, with standard infantry and medium-to-strong cavalery. Goblins are the basic troups, orcs do the elite job, and there are warg riders and warg furies which represent the cavalery, and can scare horses or camels.
Amazon Community
This is a faction composed only of female warriors, that have a bonus anytime they battle male/ish troups. They have strong archers and mounted archers, Valkyres for cavalry and some mystical creatures as mages.
Lycan Community
This faction is solely based on Were-wolves, Were-cats, Were-Bears and the likes. They even have huge Were-Bats as Flying units. They don't have a huge roster of troups, but are quick (they don't have chavalry, but don't need it, as you can probably figure out) and I'd dare you to fight a huge frenzy WereBear!
Binthos Community
This is a faction of Gnomes, small humanoid creatures, smaller than dwarves but taller than hobbits. They are expert archers and even use Ponys for cavalry! They have bonuses while fighting in forests or jungles, and have arranged to train huge beatles that live in the deeps of their forests and are the size of elephants to fight their enemies.
Rosinian Community
This is a faction of plant-like beings. We have Coconut-spitting archers, huge Ent-like beings that smash anyone that dares to come close to them and small flying acorn-like beings that attack enemies from above. Also, some of these units use poison to kill the enemy.
Community of the Wind Elves
This is our first elvish Faction. These elves have standard infantry, medium archers and weak cavalry, but are specialized in flying units, like Eagles, or Eagles with archers on top, and even managed to train Rocs, huge fantastic birds that are the size of a bus.
Community of Silvan Elves
This Faction has the strongest archers in the game, and also some of the strongest infantry. The rest is pretty standard, and they don't have any flying units, their cavalry is weak to non-existent, but they have bonus while fighting in forests.
Community of Faries
This faction has weak infantry, composed only of driads, and no cavalry at all, but are specialized in magic and flighting casters, such as faries, harpies, lillends and the likes. A quite hard faction to play with, seen the lack of an actual "army"; but who doesn't like challange? =)
Flaxay Community
Another faction of gnomes, this time we have little beasts that are specialized in skirmishes, are excellent in fighting in swamps or jungles, and have managed to train and command huge snakes (anacondas) and crocodiles that can ambush anyone as long as they're in high grass.
Mannil Community
A faction of Hobbits/Halflings. They aren't good fighters at all, with just weak infantry and medium archers, but have some neat magicians and base their strategy on cunning the enemy out. I thought this faction to have huge diplomacy bonuses, if this is possible to program.
Sioc Community
As you can guess, I took ispiration from American Natives for this faction. The idea is that they have very high morale infantry troups, some shamans and even some cavalery troups. Not strong archeres, but javelin and tomahawk throwers instead.
Vampire Community
These are all sorts of vampires, ranging from infantry to gun-fighters, with no cavalry at all, but flying uynits in the form of gargoyles. The neat idea behind this faction is that they have bonuses if they fight at night, while heavy maluses while they fight during the day, to the extent that they can only fight with Ghouls at daytime, which is their standard "peasant"-like unit.
Aphlatix Empire
These are High Elves, that have normal infantry and normal archers, but quite strong cavalry, with unicorns forming the top of the iceberg. They also have some neat flying units with Pegasi and Gryphons.
Artakos Empire
This is a strange mix of creatures that live in hot deserts and freezing mountain-tops. On one hand we have huge four-armed grasshopper like warriors and huge-condors, on the others ice-wyrms and yetis. All units either have advantage in cold-terrains and disadvantages in hot-terrains, or viceversa.
Drow Empire
This Empires of Half-DarkElves are also specialized in flying units, like Averls, which are small very aggressive birds, that are the Rocs' nemesis. They also have Chu Ko Nu archers, that can fire five bolts in a row before any need to recharge their crossbows.
Dark Elf-Empire
This faction is mirrored from the Aphlatix Empire. We have another faction of Dark Elves, but these ones have Hyphogryphs instead of Pegasi, and since they were not able to train Unicorns, they have Heavy Cavalry instead. They also have stealth units that are invisible at night.
Lantranur Empire
The Humanoid beings that created this Empire are with a skin so thik, they are almost immune to fire. They have rather strong Infantry, with elite units with wolverine-like claws, and strong cavalery, with Incubi (black, flamed horses), not speaking of the LavicDracon, a worm-like flying fire-breathing creature that can also move underground.
Dwarven Empire
Your old-fashioned Dwarven faction. Axes are their alpha and omega, with Strong infantry and some pistols and arquebuskes on their side.
Shao-Dung Empire
A chinese-fashioned Faction, that have medium tier fighters in all cathegories that matter, and as a special unit the famous Chinese-Dragon, which is both a flying unit, and a magic wielding unit. They also have monks, two-katana wielding fighters and shugenjas.
Trazahn Empire
A prussian-like empire, with rigorous high-morale troups that have incredibly good armor. Their special units are Arrow-Hawks, high-speed birds with four wings, and Serpids, which look like giant crabs with a metal plate armor.
Troll Empire
In this Empire we find Troll and Troll like creatures. They don't have any cavalry, but don't even need it. Goron-like creatures will mash to death any army foolish enough to wait for them downhill, while their standard troups are composed of troglodites and goblins.
Xatharas Empire
This Empire of Half-Elves has very strong Infantry that are also Archers, medium cavalry units and medium-to-strong archer units. Their Imperial Guard is one of the most-versatile units of the game, since they are both elite-archers as elite-infantry troups.
Yhdros Empire
Zora-like, Fish-like humanoid creatures, that can move freely throu water and land in the campaign map. This faction's troups are medium in all departments, but always have bonuses when fighting near rivers, lakes or the sea.
Karmantic Jaffarath
This Desert Folk have chariots, camel-riders and necromants. With these, they can evoke undead to fight for them during battles. In addittion, they have a troup called Nubais Infantry, that are magic-yielders that are also strong in closed range fights, and scare the enemies with their horrible helmets.
Itilic League
This faction has a huge selection of cavalry units, from your standard horsemen, to mangudais and mameluks, but also have units that can unmount others faction's riders. Crossbowmen, archers, and infantry are standard, but cavalry is very cheap, so they will have huge numbers of riders.
Anuan Reign
This Faction is one of the most corrupt of the game, in fact so corrupt it can not even hold its own army. All it has are mercenary troups, thou most of them are exclusive and can only be recruited by them for almost no mony, but with huge monthly salaries!
Costounian Reign
This faction has no mages at all, but has "religious" units that can give immunity to all sorts of magic to their own units. A part from that, it has a very strong medieval-like army, with archers, spearmen, infantry, cavalery and what not!
Reign of the UnDead
This faction is comprised solely of undead creatures. The standard unit are zombies, then we have mummies, skeletons of all sorts, ghosts, leeches and even Nazul-like flying creatures, that lower the opponents morale. Also, they have infinite stamina!
Fushon Reign
These are plant-like creatures like the one we had in the "Rosinian Community" faction, but with poison-based attackes, like gas bombs, spores that explode, and the likes. The have bonuses while fighting in the woods, swamps and jungles, but are extremely vulnerable to fire.
Grimold Reign
A barbarian culture, this faction is pretty much standard in all fields, but they have incredibly powerfull infantry with their raging bersekers. They also have strong druids to support them with tribal magic.
Krekutukrin Reign
This faction of insect-like creatures swarm across the lands of the Earth, like a plague they divour everything that comes in their way. With basically no archers, this army is composed of ant-like humanoids, giant spiders and mantis that can scare all others troups.
Nuenian Reign
The standard faction that has all sorts of medium troups, none really strong, but non great maluses either. They have good pearmen, swordsmen, archers, cavalery and mounted archers, and even managed to train some eagles.
Ogre Reign
In this faction there are a lot of ultra-strong infanatry units (but not so many mounted or ranged units). A part from Ogres, we also find Ettins, Giants and Titans in this eterogenous and unorganized group of fighters.
Pleit Reign
Besides some good-old-fashioned war elephants, this faction sports some nice spear based troups, ranging from javelin thrower, to pikemen, hoplites and the likes, a little like an ancient-greek/macedonian army. Their special unit is the semi-god, a strong magic infantry unit.
Shanak Reign
This army stands to Japan as the Shao-Dung Empire stood to China. Here we find some serious nunchaku fighters, shuriken-throwers and the fearsome ninjas, one of the strongest infantry units of the game (second only to the elven forest-dancers). Also, most of these units have huge advantages during night-time battles!
Sooc Reign
This apache-like faction gathers its strength from native-american mythological beings, a part from some pretty nice cavalry and infantry units that can ambush even if just hidden in high grass. (I'm not sure yet how I want to distinguish this one from the Soic Community or if I want to unite them, both options are fine with me, really).
Reign of the Stychoerix
This faction is made of humanoid dinosaurs. While their normal units are antropomorph velociraptors and the likes, with different weapons and so on, their special units are huge beasts like the tyrannosaurus rex and the triceratops, huge beasts that tears every unit apart that they encounter in their charge. There are also flying dinosaurs!
Regni of Succibi
This winged-demon creatures like to play with genetics, and stopped being just evil, while starting being even more cruel. They have mutated werewolves (Bargheists), mutated dragons (Drahns), and all kind of flying units, with or without bows.
Tsul Reign
This Desert-based reign has a lot of good cavalry units that are also capable of fighting in sandy terrains, while they also have huge condor like flying units, and lots of magical wielding units.
Karmos Republic
This faction contains a lot of greek-mythology creatures, like Minataurs, Satires, Medusas, Chimeras and most of all, the mighty Centaurs. These are both Cavalry as Mounted Archers that obviously can not be unmounted!
Vetullian Republic
A faction for which I used Ancient Rome as ispiration, with Legionaires, Cohorts and the likes, but with the add of a unique hero unit, that can never die, which is the Phoenix, a giant flying unit that breathes fire and gives a huge morale bonus to all troups in the battle.
The Heavens
This army is the one that seeks to bring good to the world. The basic units are just devoted standard fighters, like swordsmen, archers, light cavalery and spearmen, but the elite units are flying, fighting, ranged or magic yielding angels, that deal massive damage and scare all evil-alligned creatures in the battlefield.
The Forces of Hell
Where there is light, there is darkness. These troups represent the latter, and are full of demonic creatures, worse than those of the Succibi. Here we have stuff like Demons, Mariliths, Allips, Horned Devils and some Balrogs, just for comletion's sake!
Followers of the Four of the Apocalypse
This mixed band of fighters worship the Four HorseRiders of the Apocalypse, that are a single Hero unit comprised of four riders, each one for each catastrophe that can haunt the earth. But the rest of the army isn't bad either, a part from some basic goblin units, we have bugbears, hobgoblins and heavy cavalry.
Followers of Salaman
You can guess where I have this ispiration from. Basically a faction full of Uruk-Hai fighters, but with a nice twist, that is magic yielding wizards and some Huge-Boars to have some nice big cavalry unit to mess with.
Hwar Tribes
This is a faction of dragons. We have Earth-Dragons, that can only wander on earth, spit fire and fight in skirmishes, than we have flying dragons, and we have water-dragons that can cross the seas like they were ships. "Peasants" are the basic unit of this faction.
Dwarven Union
This faction is different from the first one in that it doesn't focus on techonolgy, so it has no gun-poweder units, but has focused everything on warefare, with big ballistas, dwarven defenders with huge shields, axe-throwers and so on.
Inkh Union
These five legged, insect like creatures come from beneath the ground of the earth and claim its ownership. They come in different sizes and shapes, but have one thing in common; they can mutate to mud-like biomass, and thus are totally immune to arrows, javelins and most ranged attacks (except fire). They have rhino-like creatures for charges, and some units have laser-like ranged attacks that can seriously damage opponents.
Kasandran Merchant Union
This once pacific faction of merchants is now fighting for dominion over all coastal areas of the world. And they don't even have a bad army, with lots of mounted units, among which Chariots, War Elephants and Mumakils. They don't have strong archers or infantry units thou, but given their mobility it doesn't even matter.
Kryner Tribes
(I didn't upload the symbol for these ones yet).
This tribe of mostly tool-aged people are not good ranged fighters, but they have mediocre infantry and most of all can rely on some mesozoic beasts like mammoths and sabre-toothed tigers. Also, they don't have any maluses in artic-climate territories.
So, this is the list of the factions, some are a little redundand if you just see the descriptions, but I have troups for all of them (it would have been just too long to describe all of them here, I just pointed out the main differences) and there is really little redundancy if you see the details. I hope that, if you have come to read until down here, and you know how to model, texture and map a mod for M2TW you will contact me in this thread, or at least give mw some advices for this project.
As for myself, I guess I would be mostly just the "designer" behind the project, but I have a little modelling experience with blender, and would be perfectly able to do a 3D map for M2TW of my map. And I could, obviously, write all the descriptions for the units in the UI Cards and so on. I really just need help with the modelling of the units, texturing and putting the whole mod together, I have almost no experience in this, but am willing to put time and effort into it.
So, now it's up to you guy. Interested? Remarks? Questions? Please be nice and be constructive in your critiques! =)
