Hey guys, I think your work is awesome. I like how you made parts of the mod already playable and I'm confident you'll find the right format/proportions for FD's map. Good luck with the following.

if not this means you only pay attention to europe and thats not good !
What's the word on the start date? If you're going to do a Majorian Campaign (Which is rather clear that he and Avitus before him were carrying out the last of Aetius' plans) I can be of assisstance in that regard in terms of historical research. I have a few dozen articles and books on Roman and Barbarian Settlement, Organization, Culture, and Books I can send you guys.
In fact, I think Ian Hughes just published a book on the Emperors and Magistri after the death of Aetius.

Do you know the full name of Ian Hughes new book Magister, it would be a great addition to my library.
I decided to edit this post to ask you something interesting Magister. Did you ever come across a reference on Maioranus, if he ever had a wife or a concubine of any short. The question has troubled me for some time. He will be needing a wife in IB II, as he will be Emperor. I even searched Italian sources on this matter, but remained without an answer.
Cheers
If he did, she would certainly have been mentioned in Sidonius Apollinaris' pangeyric. And Sidonius never makes mention of a wife. I'm inclined to believe he died a bachelor. He can't have been born earlier than 430, and no later than 435, so I'm actually not surprised in that regard.
Aetius didn't marry the first time until he was in his mid-30's and Majorian died probably around the age of 35-45. When you have such a successful military, political, and administrative career, it's not surprising.
So, it is as I feared, he may have had a concubine but not a wife. I have an Italian article on a piece of inscription dated during his visit to Lungdunum, with a phrase attributed to Sidonius, and as you well mentioned Sidonius does not mention a wife, but of course that does not mean he had not had a one. Maybe she was a low born an not worth mentioning. But that would still leave us with a heavy burden to choose an appropriate name for her.
Cheers
This mod will have 3 mod leaders. Midnight, Reno Melitensis and myself when we get to it![]()

It hasn't been released yet. I don't know the name, but it's probably on his website (google Ian Hughes MA)Do you know the full name of Ian Hughes new book Magister, it would be a great addition to my library.
The entire career of Majorian was centered around the Gallic and Italic Aristocracy. As a Gaul, he may have taken an Italic wife to help try and close the gap between the two sets of Possessores. But that would still leave us with a heavy burden to choose an appropriate name for her.
The inscription from Lugdunum is probably of the speech he gave there to deal with a rebellion by the Gallic Aristocracy upon Avitus' murder.
Also I derped, please combine this with the post above.
Well... family names didn't matter anymore in this timeframe.
I don't know if he was Italic or Gallic, but Aetius promoted a lot of Gauls to high position, and considering Majorian was one of Aetius' general I would place my money on him being Gallic.
Seperation of Avitus from his army, just like the separation of Majorian from his army, caused the Italic Aristocracy to take the risk of assassinating him too.
I am, in the end, inclined to think he was a Gaul.
maybe he was mostly gallic but his paternal ancestor had came from italy during the romanising period after the roman conquest
Probably. I mean ancestry was still a thing but when you have a half-goth from Durostorum becoming the dominant force of the Empire it's quite obvious that it didn't matter anymore.
Just to note Rhalina along with me Reno and Midnite will be the mod leaders of this mod. Rhalina has been with us since RTW IB and relentless in her contributions to our mods. So I will be 4 of us.
