I think the honorable gentleman in question, The Excited one (Pray he doesn't get too excited about the mod release, for that could result in Meneth chopping his head off with a Zweihandler) is referring to the fact that historically they were inaccurate which was sometimes unbearable. Going to such historically accurate mods such as Europa Barbarorum (Seeing your signature fellow EB fan brother I assume I shall not have to explain the contents of the mod) and then back to vanilla RTW was unbearable to me at least. (For example, in vanilla RTW [I played countless hours with the game so you won't get the argument from me that it was a 'bad' game, infact to this day I love playing RTW, but with EB ofc] the Egyptian faction isn't the Ptolemaic mix of Hellenism and Egyptian warfare, but infact the inaccurate, traditional Egyptian war machine, before the Persians conquered them which means at least 400 years earlier than the RTW timeline..
I won't debate the fact that they are good games in terms of gameplay, and gave us the platform on which we could have the greatest mods since the dawn of the computer age (such as EB, and hopefully SOON!!!!!!!! DoTS) but historically speaking..... I refuse to play another minute of MTW2 after I unlocked several factions such as the Hungarian kingdom (Yes I'll always bring up my own nation as an example that's how big a nationalist I am) having the NINJA battlefield assasins?!?!?! [What kind of crack cocaine where the Creative Assembly smoking when they came up with THAT] not to mention the errors on the geographic map, the units being ahistoric, and I could go on and on and on rabble rabble rabble all day long about the issues but let's face it: If we wouldn't have RTW or MTW2 we wouldn't have great mods.
However the recent developments in rushing the release of games such as Empire total war (Which even to this day is still in a unfinished and nearly unplayable state) and Napoleon Total war (that was nothing more than an expansion pack, priced full game) has impacted the Creative Assembly, [not to mention the fact that to this day they cannot be modded normally WTF CA??!!?!?] which is why they decided that with Shogun 2 Total war they were going to do research a bit more, which in turn created the best Total war game to date in my opinion, finally fixing the A.I, making it challenging however unfortunately it isn't moddable. Historically speaking, I was actually impressed the figures, the clans everything fit their period, now only if we could have the traditional building browser back from MTW2, and Rome Total War 2 might be the best RTS game period.
