    Default Neglecting spy/assassin support sucks

Roman game, on H/H just after marian reforms. I had a nifty 5 star general with a fresh post-marian legion ready. General was 25 years old with proper retinue for invading Macedonia. So I send him off, takes on a 3000 strong Macedonian army and destroys it with few casualties. General gains a command star after this. End of turn, check my family report, he gets assassinated. That sucked, royally. I got a legion stranded in the middle of nowhere with no leader and a few full stacks heading towards it, so I retreat the legion and stick it in a fort. Then I get a comming of age report, 16 year old with 3 command stars, +2 morale bonus and +2 health bonus. Sweet new faction member, I go retinue crazy on him and he goes to 7 command stars and 3 morale bonus. I send him off to meet up with the other legion, with some mercenaries to escort him in case he runs into trouble. 17 year old general reaches his legion, I set off to attack a Macedonian town, gets attacked by a full stack army and beats it off. Next turn, assassinated. That'll teach me to forget to support my generals with the proper agents

Hmm, sounds like alot of bad luck. Generally speaking the succes chance of assassinating a Family Member is very small. Alos, stacking him in a large army also makes it harder to kill him.

Personally, take a few spies and assassins and go adn kill of all there spies and assassins and diplomats.

Macedonians and Greeks are really heavily into Assassinations, don't know why.

I usually have a spy go along with my generals when they are in that area, and have a spy/assassin combination wandering around looking for enemy assassins to bump off.

Another option is to go and burn down all their markets before you invade, assed benefit is it mucks up their cashflow too.

Tough break Endeav, I suggest you do as Terra Hero suggests but you probably only need to carry a spy in your troops. This will ensure a very low chance of assination. The same thing happend to me trying to take Messana, I lost 2 family members trying to get into a seige. I just recently lost a full post marian legion off the coast of iberia thanks to the rebel pirates whom which I greatly outnumbered in men, but I guess Lt made them super pirates.

There ships are better. lol You need to use the higher level ships to stop them. Its easy really once your learn how, but it cost more for the fleet to ensure safety.

the basic rule at the start is to build ports early and then make sure your fleets only move from one to another.....
