Which submods do you guys think are absolutely essential to play the game, or do you think that SS6.4 does not need any submods?
Also is there going to be an SS6.5, does anybody know?

it doesnt, but i like the newt submod that gives a more "arcade" gameplay to it...

There is going to be a SS 6.5, but I don't know when it's coming out. As for sub mods...I play with different ones all the time. Try Meneth's sub mod compilation 6.0, it's an excellent one. There's also HURB, but it hasn't been updated in a while...it's not dead though afaik.
I like Battle for the Baltic 2.0. It adds Sweden to the main campaign, a kickass Baltic campaign(think the Teutonic Campaign from Kingdoms, but better), and fixes to the government systems of the Russian and Italian(Venice and Genoese at least) factions
I totally forgot about BftB o.o Definitely try it if you can, it's a lot of fun (y)
in BFTB milan and venice dont have family trees, just to let you know
Submods depend on how you want to play the game; enchance certain elements/factions, reduce the realism or increase it.
I like realism in my games, so for SS6.4 I play with longer assimilation, real recruitment & combat, Byg's Grim Reality IV Enhanced, etc.
