    Default Deal breaker traits

OK, when a new general is available either from marriage, adoption, or "man of the hour", what traits are absolute deal breakers for you, you wont voluntarily get them no matter how good their other traits are.

Me, I never chose to get generals with Dull, Irreverent, or gloomy.

The game generates more sons for the very good genetically starting characters if your family is much smaller than the size of your empire - and I much prefer my families to descend from those. If you don't adopt and often refuse marriages your family will soon be matching the size of your empire anyway. Just need to wait for them to grow up and go through schools first.

So I don't like adopting at all and I only accept guys who are really the top of their class. No drunkards, no idiots, I take langorous only for governor jobs and I never marry daughters to old guys. He needs to be young, smart, religious, educated (can't send them to agoge if they are adopted) and show some talent in either command or management (I prefer management).

Dealbreaker for me is anything below perfection.

Why does he need to be religious? Is it a personal preference or something game-useful? I know some characters who have issues with religion break the civil order in towns.

It depends on which type of non-religious trait it is that is in question. If the character is pragmatic, then it's actually only a good thing. But if the character is irreverent and just openly mocks religion, then it is a bad trait. There's a difference between not being religious and being against religion, and the trait system signifies that.

The same applies to religious traits. If the character is reverent and respectful of religion, then it is a good trait. Whereas if the character is superstitious to the point of stupidity, then it is a bad trait.

I'm also quite picky about adopted/in-law FMs. At least with these you can choose while you can't choose to have only good born-in FMs. Yes, I know some of you guys are known to put the useless FMs on boats and/or into impossible battles but it's not my style. I'm also not particularly fond of marrying my 12-year-old daughters to 42 year-olds, not unless they are really good and I need them desperately.

Speaking of traits, is it just my imagination or do FMs who are governors of island provinces always prone to rebellion (significantly lower level of bribery)?

If he has two negative traits in his intelligence/charisma/energy trait, then I don't take him. Same with the optimism/loyalty trait (I forget the third part). I hat disloyal generals, too risky. Also, if he is prone to drinking or a drunkard, no way he is becoming a part of my family

Sharp/the good one/ the good one (can't remember).

I myself also look for young FM and adoptees. I have no problems with adopting because I always find a purpose for them. To be honest, I prefer to overflow with them than having very few.

Sometimes Vigorous is counter-productive for governors, they are going to get bored and you'll have to find them a battle to fight or their stats will be screwed up. So you shouldn't really fight for that stat. If it's there, it's good, but if it isn't - that's not bad either.
