    Default vanilla pikemen

    in the vanilla game M2TW that is just the m2tw game not also the kingdoms expansion, pikemen used to start with the guard mode on by default. this meant that when fighting the phalanx formation didnt behave so buggy (ex: turning their backs when fighting infantry). is there a way (script or anything else) to make pikemen start with guard mode on by default?

    better, take away the sword once and for all from them. but then, they are very strong..

    it's not only that they're very strong but they look really weird when assaulting walls too because they keep their poles with them the whole time. any sugestions?

    i've made their attack higher and also made their formation longer back to front but still they turn their backs on their foes when theyre about 1/3 of the units size.this happens because a phalanx formation was thought as to be used allways with guard mode turned on just like in rome tw. so does anyone know how to revert back to phalanxes starting in guard mode by default?

    They don't do it by default in vanilla but they did in RTW.

    In M2TW you have to set it up in descr_formations_ai.txt.

    yeah that's a posibility but not actualy i was hoping there was another way around because it's time consuming to mod my descr_formation. anyway pikemen in the vanilla start with guard mode by default. the idea of the CA guys was to make pikes start not in guard mode for kingdoms because this way the front line won't kneel anytime they standed. still couldn't a script be made that says something like
    monitor_event button_pressed start_battle
    (make pike units stand in guard mode)) . don't know much about scripting

    alexgold, it's a fact, not a possiblity.

    And no, you can't script it.

    And anyway doing a tiny mod like this wouldn't take long.

    You just need separate blocks for pikemen and those blocks set to defend.

    yeah i guess that't the only way... but still it mistifyes me why did the damn pikemen start with guard mode in the first edition of the game. BTW thanx taij for youre rep

    I used to use it in my own system, but it made pikemen attack too slowly. So slowly that even turning their backs occasionally is less of a problem.

    isn't there any script or other way to make the game use 2 separate edu files?

    or better still make the ai not use pikemen for manning siege equipment. it would be great not to have pikes all over your walls.
