Located in the Roman Forum, the Temple of Venus stands out as a radiantly white marble structure with high columns. Spectators from without the Temple can make out the outline of a massive statue of Venus within. Venus, the goddess of love, is also associated with good luck, the harvest, and shares a special relationship with other prominent deities such as Vulcan, Mars and Jupiter. The exterior of the Temple always remains well lit by the oil burning dishes on pedestals just in front of the columns. This particular Temple is dedicated to Venus of the Heavens, and is already several centuries old. It has, however, fallen into disrepair, and no longer contributes much to the state at all.
Severus Metellus spends much of his free time in and around the Temple, seeing to its function and ensuring all rites are performed correctly. Fresh flowers are placed at the feet of the goddess each day and libations poured.
