customizing a factions available units?

I couldn't find a topic that helped me enough on this so I thought I would ask.
I would like to customize a faction so that I may cherry pick certain units from other factions and add them to my own. I am not looking to create a new faction as I understand it is impossible, only alter one.
I am in this for having an enjoyable large number of options for how to fight the hundreds of campaign battles. I've played total war since the beginning and it used to be possible to mod available units, if not easy to do. I'd add scythe chariots, slingers, elephants, cataphracs, greek phalnaxes, greek fire to a certain faction and have a ball with the multitude of options for battle.

In shogun 2 I would likely try and make use of units localized to a few or only one faction.
I use the darth mod, I don't know if that would impact the possibility.

And for the troll flamers out there who don't belong in a modding forum anyway I obviously don't care about historical accuracy or balance. I'd walk godzilla through a shogun 2 battlefield for a laugh. I do remember cheat of some similarity back in rome total war for giant elephants.

Thats what I used, I didnt follow it word for word, made a ninja unit to test, works so far, it tells you how to make units special too, so just follow that and it should hopefully help you

Right now, Im just trying to figure out how to edit the Sengoku Jidai dlc units, need more ammo.
