    Default Invincible Scots?

So I'm a longtime EB player, who finally made the upgrade recently to Medieval II, and I gotta say I love this mod. I'm playing as Scotland and Alexander the Merciless (If I'm getting my history right "Merciless" is a pretty good description for the real Alexander) has slaughtered basically every Norman (and a hefty chunk of the Saxons) on the whole island, along with most of the Irish for good measure, however, looking at export_desc_buildings I have a concern: If you get pikemen AND longbowmen before too long, aren't you pretty much god, or does ever-increasing armour keep things interesting? I'm playing 6.4 in case you were wondering...

Well besides pikemen, you have nothing else really... You won't have access to better cavalry, even your fuedal knights are especially weak.

God, with pikes and longbows I think I can make do fairly well, but I suppose that balances it out a bit. Again, i'm just looking at the edb and going by that so you'd probably know better than I, but doesn't Scotland get access to knights templar through the charter houses?

Templar chapter houses are limited to specific cities now, I think unless you go off crusading through the middle east the closest settlements that have them available are Clermont and Toulouse, and you only get 1 unit every 10 turns or so from each.

Ah, I see. Well that actually works out pretty well. I gotta say, I find the whole thing very well-balanced, and the Mongols are accurately indestructable too. I've gotta try a muslim faction next, any suggestions?

If you are really looking for a challenge, you could always go for the Crusader States.

Seljuks are pretty interesting in either era, you'll be mainly fighting byzantine or mongols, and all your other neighbours seem to like jumping in as soon as they think you're not paying attention.

In all honesty I've never seen England survive war with the Scots.

In most of my campaigns i find england wins over scotland probably 60% of the time, however i generally play early era campaigns. im looking for a new faction to play and I find muslim factions are far too boring in the early era games, then again so is every faction. any suggestions? also where is the file that says when certain units are recruitable i want to look at the turn numbers where certain units are released.

I believe this is what you need: http://www.pressdat.com/mtw2/

Also, my personal preferneces are: play Late, enable BGR IV, Limited Recruitmnet, Longer Assimilation.

You can try that setup out. Should make stuff more interesting.

Also, if you want balanced autoresolve, I would reccomend Soulsons campaign AI. Just do a search for it on the subforums. I believed he tinkered something with the autoresolve. I`m using it, and I`m really happy how it is working out.

the export_descr_buildings file is the one that tells you the recruitment time and events needed for the units. I don't really play early era, militia armies aren't my style. If you want something that's challenging, but fun, I think a CS late era campaign is pretty enjoyable.

i auto-resolve battles because my laptop cant handle the graphics required to personally play them out, so ill get slaughtered against the mongols haha

Have you tried putting the graphics to lowest possible setting and small unit sizes? 'Cause youre missing out on a lot :'(

indeed, 80% of the game is about the battle map, the strategic map is only 20% of the game

I would need alot of practice at battles, and being a student in engineering i dont really have time to play a campaign by playing every battle. It would take me months (plural) to finish a campaign that way lol

Thanks pop, is it compatible with the setup menu like some other sub mods, ie next heir ancillary, enhanced rebel generals, RLC. Also ive tried playing with BGR and read the guide, gonna give it another shot because i was playing with some other sub mod that increasedd wall strength and rebel army strength by 2 for slower expansion. I generally pplay early campagin and will probably keep it that way because Im waiting for Prince's new map to come out.

Everything I mentioned above except Soulsons AI are not only compatible with the setup menu, they are also included in the SS 6.4 installation files. I believe, but I`m not sure they should be compatible with the stuff you mentioned.
As for Early vs. Late, it`s a preference thing imo.

I thought in early game Scots are terribly hard to kill ( they SPAM lots of pikemen and highlands rabble ), but when England gets longbowmen they're as easy to kill as ants.

When I lead England I conquer Scotland in the first six turns of the game, and by turn 10 I have all the isles under my control, Ireland and all.

I play VH/VH and Early. Though I imagine if i fire up BGR it will take a whole lot longer to do so. I've recently started a campaign as France and gave Longer Assimilation a try. A forced bottleneck to my overwhelming urge to blitz the entire map seems nice, so long as it's not overly restrictive.
