Default New processor help out in big massive battles???

I have an x800xl, 1GB RAM, and a Athlon 64 2800+ @ 1.8GHz. I can do a 2000 man battle at max settings with huge unit settings at 1024x768 res pretty well......But when I zoom in real close on a relatively big fight I lag badly.

I normally gotta keep my camera zoomed out to keep a high frames per sec in big battles.....so will a better processor help kep my frames up in really big battles if I zoom in?

Or am I better off getting 2GB RAM.

Which will keep my frames up in bigger battles?

Pass data tell me a better processor would help, but I think you have a pretty decent CPU already. You might want to look into defragging or checking for virus, that kinda thing might be helpful also...

An X800XL shouldn't have any problem with RTW, and a 1.8 ghz Athlon64 shouldn't have any problems either. Just make sure you do what General_Sun said and also update the drivers.

I have catalyst 6.4. My CPU is socket 754 if that means anything.

How much space do you have left on your hd? I have the same model (as a slave drive) and it really didn't hinder anything.

How big is your page file?
If it's very large try reducing it ( a lot), as this forces windows to use physical memory (ram) instead.

I had a weaker system and the same problem. It turned out that I had a few nasty malwares floating around that used up 15-20% of my cpu at times. I would do what General_Sun suggested and then see how that works.

    Ran AVG...found 3 Trojanclicker.BMZ's
spybot found 27 traces of spyware.
And whats Malware, is it the same as spyware, if not do I need a special program to get rid of malware?

malware is just a generalization for all the different types of evilness. so virus/trojans/spyware is all malware.

so just run your stuff, avg, spybot etc.

the fact that you have a 754, instead of a 939 chip, means you will only get single channel ram functionality. If you are going to replace your CPU, it may be prudent to replace the motherboard aswell, then you could install ram in pairs, doubling your memory bandwidth.

I am aware of this already. But at the time of purchase I wasnt. After like 2 weeks I found out.
