Thanks- wish there was a better way to do it but it does make sense for late campaign.

You seemed to have added some late era "armour_ug_levels" + "armour_ug_models" to the early bodyguards and increased the "stat_pri_armour" value of early BG's ?

Right. Thats's the only way you can have further upgraded armour for your family members. Now they start at coat of plates instead at heavy mail, and go to plate, full plate and gothic plate.
Something is not quite right...

The stat_pri_armour is the same as vanilla SS 6.4. You change the body model after upgrading, but the stat bonus only goes up to +4 at max. So, they look "gothic" but their armour stat only counts as 13, whereas a recruited general's bodyguard has his armour stat up to 21 (no upgrade). In battle, your family members will still be weaklings from the 12th centuries, slaughtered in less than a minute if confronted by a recruited general's bodyguard. Am I mistaken?
Late bodyguards have armoured horses and thus +5 or +7 to their armour. I can't put early bodyguards on armoured horses in 11th century as it would be stupid. I gave them +1 armour as they now start at coat of plates instead heavy mail. Or do you wish havy mail to have 17 points? And this is mainly estethic and I personaly think it's better to have bodyguards that look late but not as quite as strong, then to have bodyguards thet look couple of centuries out of date.
SH, I think the only way, as of now, to make them strong, asthetics and historicallly acceptable is by manually replacing the export_descr_unit.txt file. Perhaps, it is better if two EDUs are introduced, one for 1100-1450 and one for 1450-?
Is this mod fully compatible with MSC 6.0 + BGR IV_E? I compared both export_desc_unit.txt with Notepad++ and there are other differences apart from the bodyguard ones (mainly upkeep values, me thinks).
Well then you can change the bodyguards yourself. Just see what things I've changed and copy it to EDU you use.
Then you have to make a new unit. It's a bit more work. And anyway, I think that family members are hardcoded to only one unit. It is why family members dont have late bodyguard models like trained generals from citadels.

Well, it's not necessary that we make a new unit. Let's put it this way: we use 2 different EDU files (one marked as EARLY and one marked as LATE). In the EARLY, we copy-paste the early bodyguard units into the late bodyguard units, replacing those. In the LATE, we do it the other way around. These 2 will be kept as backup files. When ingame, we will use either one according to the timeline (whether it's 1100-1450 or later).
How many armor upgrades are available? Couldn't we just reserve the final 2 for BG only? Since each upgrade actually is rather massive compared to total armor especially in the earlier eras.

Is it compatible with Meneth Submods compilation? Maybe included?
If Meneth didn't change the EDU file it's compatable.
I don't know any other solution to this than the one I did. Two EDUs is complicated.
Hello,
first of all thanks for the mod, I was looking for something that changed the old fashioned surcoat for the captain in my late era campaign...
A few questions:
1. Will this work on my "in-progress" campaign, or do I have to start a new one?
2. Is there any way, or any other mod, that can bring me back the vanilla generals (note generals and family members not captains) instead of Stainless Steel's generals? I might be asking too much, but I really dislike the fact that my generals/family members are still wearing old fashioned topfhelms or great helms when they are wearing a plate harness.
3. What kind of sub-mod are you using in the screenshot on the first post?
Thanks in advance for answers![]()
Hi man.
1. You do not have to start a new campaign.
2. This is only for Stainless Steal mod and it will not work with any other because these are only text changes. Those models are in SS6.4.
3. Just regular Stainless Steal 6.4![]()
This is an excellent idea!! I'd give you rep if I could.
@Serbian Hussar, I believe you may have a certain interest in this feature regarding upgraded bodyguards. Hope you'll like it.![]()
That is far more sophisticated way of upgreading bodyguards than mineThanks for the link, I'll try to do it that way.
