I cannot save in Prologue! Please help!

OK, I finally bought the Steam version of Total War which has all the Total War series after buying Total War Shogun 2 for $49.90. Thus, I am a newbie when it comes to this series.

After playing Rome Total War in the Prologue for a number of turns and after trying to take the 2nd city (I failed by the way), I tried to save the game by pressing escape BUT the save and load buttons are all greyed out! Why is this so? Does this mean that I can never save a game in Prologue? I know that in campaign mode, you can save the game but what about in Prologue?

Moreover, to successfully win the Prologue, one must capture 50 cities so this particular campaign is rather long. I need a solution for this!

The prologue is meant to be just a quick tutorial thing. It teaches you the basics of the game so you can then move on to the actual game

The tutorial is implemented with what is known as a Campaign Script. You cannot save while such a script is running, which is a shame because campaign scripts would have allowed all sorts of interesting modding possibilities.

Once the script has finished, which happens when you have met all your objectives, you while find that the save facility will become enabled.

Thanks for the kind reply. So usually, how long does it take to meet all of my objectives? Must I conquer ALL 50 cities or is it after a couple of turns?

I really want to save and complete the prologue but after playing for about 1 to 2 hours, the save function has not yet been available for me. So how long does it take before the save function becomes available?

The prologue does not require you to conquer many cities. I believe one or two is the most that is needed. I did last play it in 2005.....

If you need to conquer more than that then there appears to be a problem.

So the question is, I must successfully conquer about 2 cities, right? If I fail in conquering one city, it won't count, right?

OK, I have finally managed to save the prologue! It is after successfully capturing Bovianum. That is the 3rd battle in the prologue and the 2nd city captured. Please note that if you fail to capture Bovianum, the game would still not allow you to save, no matter how many turns you complete.

On a side note, as I am new to this game, I am loosing money rapidly. Despite building roads and a mine, money still is being lost. What is the reason for this? Is it because I have too many troops?

I need help in successfully completing the prologue so any tips would be useful.
