    Default Bush press secretary resigns.

I wouldn't normally care about this but I was watching TV and Bush said that he likes him and that it was his decision. Ya right, my brother whose in the navy says the armed forces have a thing where your voluntold. For example, they will ask you to volunteer to work on one of those river boats in Iraq, however if you dont they will send you anyways. This is literally the same thing.

Now off of that obviously this is a sign that they want a new face to talk to the public due to approval ratings. Any guesses to who will take the job? I'm guessing it will be someone from Fox News.... which is who is actually speculated to get the job. I'm not just saying that to be funny as even CNN has a person who was as far as to have been asked.

The former pentagon spokesperson was asked to join in on the fun in washington but declined, the way she talked sounded as if she would say yes if it was certain that she wouldn't be joining a sinking ship. She is actually incredibly intelligent and likable if you ever have seen her, too bad. She is the person who works for CNN that i mentioned earlier.

In my opinion? I think they need the former Iraqi propoganda minister.

Hes done a good job right as spokesperson for the Redwings, lol, i bet he'd do great work for the white house.

Are you talking about Scott Mclellan? If so, good it was time for him to retire...lol, he sucked...

    Mr. Work is hard

Yeah, along with a new press secretary we could probably use a new press corp as well.

My guess is that it will be a minority. I dunno why, but I'd bet money on it, theyre looking for a minority. Or a croney, Bush's second cousin twice removed on his fathers side, who owed him a favor from 20 years ago.

Mclellan did a poor job as press secretary. The press secretary has a very tough job so this time they should choose someone more capable.

I agree. This may be one of the few instances where G. Dubya erred in judgement.

About freaking time. It's Washington DC so I suppose the stupid political appointment can be forgiven. Every President does it. Sometimes they suck so bad you actually notice

did anyone else notice how when the questioning started to get REAL bad, and Scott basically had to repeat "I dont know." or "thats classified" a million times instead of actually answering questions, his face started to get all contorted and red, I swear I anticipated a stroke or a blood vessel bursting or something. I'm glad he chose to retire leisurely and not retire morbidly.

Actually, No. 1 on the list is Tony Snow, the talk show host, and a journalism veteran. This man knows how to handle the press corps, and has a personality that attracts people to him.

    His biography:

Tony Snow is the host of Weekend Live with Tony Snow, which airs each Saturday from 12-2 PM/ET on FOX News Channel (FNC). Snow also serves as an FNC political analyst and contributes to the network’s political and election news coverage. Snow joined the network in 1996.

Snow previously served as host of FOX News Sunday (FNS), the FOX Broadcasting network’s Sunday morning public affairs program. As host of FNS from 1996 to 2003, Snow interviewed numerous world leaders, including National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice; Secretary of State Colin Powell; Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld; Sen. Minority Leader Tom Daschle, D-S.D.; Sen. Joseph Lieberman, D-Conn.; Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf; and former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Before joining FOX News, Snow was a nationally syndicated columnist with The Detroit News from 1993 to 2001. He was also a columnist for USA Today from 1994 to 2000. Earlier, he served as an editorial writer at The Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk, VA; editorial page editor of The Daily Press in Newport News, VA; deputy editorial page editor of The Detroit News; and editorial page editor of The Washington Times. Snow’s career in journalism began in 1979 when he was an editorial writer for The Greensboro Record in North Carolina.

In 1991, Snow took a sabbatical from journalism to work in the White House for President George H. Bush. He first served as the deputy assistant to the president for communications and director of speechwriting, and later as deputy assistant to the president for media affairs.

Snow earned his bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina. He grew up in Cincinnati and currently resides in Virginia with his wife, son, and two daughters.

Whether you like his politics or not, you must admit that he would be a far more formidable character than Scott McClellan for this rough job.

It is a good thing that he retired, as being press secretary for the president is like being a punching bag for a profesional boxer!

I guess when your president has one of the lowest approval ratings in history its kind of hard for you to keep a job.

It is ironic that Tony Snow, someone who works for Fox News, is the #1 person up for the job.

Why ironic? It makes sense, to me. His experience plus his personality make him a natural. Plus, Tony is a political conservative.

It would be as natural as Hillary Clinton choosing Wolf Blitzer, from CNN.

And he seems very well informed too...

Direct quote from Tony Snow on 29/10/2005 on Real Time with Bill Maher after drivelling on about how great it would be that, even though the president of Iraq won't shake hands with women, there would now be women serving in government in the country:

But, if none of Iraq's women have gone to school for the last several decades, however would they end up with women qualified to serve in government? Why did he ignore that there was free college education for women?

I won't even bother with the long list of lies, that make him a suitable candidate for the job, but you can see it here:http://mediamatters.org/items/200604220001

It's the only "network" Dubya/Cheney pay any attention to, so no surprise. Cheney's lodging requirements actually *specify* that the TV's in his room be tuned to FOX. (No, I'm not making that up!!!)

FOX is great for entertainment as a caricature of a news network. For right wing comedy, tune to Foxnews, for left wing tune to the Daily Show.

Does anyone ever notice that George Bush and Dick Cheney tend to give exclusive interviews to fox news.

Well of course. Fox operates rather blatantly as a political entity while calling all other networks/media completely biased. Fox caters to a constituency and this has been a profitable strategy for them. I can't argue against the commercial success/brilliance of it, but I also can't take them seriously as a news source either.

Interestingly, this harkens back to the much older days of fairly strong political affiliations of newspapers and less objective reporting. It is a regressive trend. That's not much of a surprise since "progressive" has been treated as dirty word for a few years.

I can't take CNN seriously either. I guess its all a matter of which political leaning suits you more.

Explain to me exactly when news organizations were not in support of one side or the other?

Sure I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is Im not. I honestly feel that America is the best country and all other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

In recent decades there has been considerable effort toward balance and objectivity. It has never been perfect and never will be. However, since about 2000 there has been a growing cry of bias, and at the same time less honesty when dealing with the media (by those screaming "bias!") There has been a concerted effort by the current administration to politicize many things that were not previously considered partisan.

If you want an example of how ridiculous the bias argument can get, look at Judith Miller of the New York Times. She was spoon fed classified info by the Oval Office--information that turned out to be largely untrue. She was a complete lackey and mouthpiece for the administration.

Claiming everyone is biased so we should all support our own particular brand of biased journalism is a ridiculous concept. I've actually historically been an independent, so I've been sensitive to bias in several directions (and still am.) However, there is an incredible distortion that seems prevalent among the populist right wing of the last few years: that there is only one side to a story--whatever theirs happens to be at the moment. I enjoy hearing passionate discussions from intelligent folks on both sides of an issue. Hearing only one side? It is worthless. Yet, I've noticed that media sources that do attempt to present both sides get branded as biased for it. (And, no, O'Reilly would not qualify as presenting both sides...LOL.)

An independent media is a good thing, and I believe we should seek balanced reporting rather than having polarized news channels. I don't care much for an administration that believes an independent media is the enemy.
