Icon4 The Great War l FAQ (**READ THIS**)

I thought id start an FAQ, please suggest any other answers needed.

    Release Date

There is no release date, there are too many variables at this point to give a proper release date. Do not ask, because we dont know. We'll give you an estimation once we have one ourselves.

    New Ship Models

There is no converter for ship models and because of the complexity of the ship models there may never be a converter, however there will be a new campaign map model to replace the sailboat there now.

    Trenches

There are currently trenches in TGW 4.6 but they are retextured versions of the vanilla trenches. According to CraigTW there is no way to edit the collision maps or control how wide the trenchs are deployed, basically meaning we will have to make due with the trenches we have now.

    Crashes in 4.6

CtDs should be reported in the tech help & bugs thread. But first, take a look at the first post of this thread, it may explain your problem and provides a hotfix. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=456298

One Q would be if models are in, I've seen some guys asking that.

Also, another one would be people starting new threads instead of asking in the Technical Help & Bug Reports Thread. Better be telling them to ask in that thread instead of starting new ones.

    This should be stickied.

I think that you can't have full historical trench but you could have trench using the heighmaps and the deployable. You can do new maps with trenches in the deployment area (you use the heighmaps and use black colour to make them, easy to do, I have already try it) and then you install your troops inside the trenches and make them use deployment items as in zulu mod like sand bags or barwire if you want.
I think fullin or desaix could do easely for you, at least, one map to show you an entire trench map (If you look to some maps he did for NTW 3, he is very good to do the rivers, sort of trenches etc. very precise)

There is something I don't know: when you deploy items like chevaux de frise or sand bags, is there a way to make your men deploy it several times in the deployment area? If that was possible by changing a value, you can put sand bags on both sides of your trench and eventually, deployment time could begin by something like: " prepair your defenses/your trench". Sappers could do it...

An other thing, with deployables your could perhaps put some planks on the ground of the trench.

So we make trenches in the battlefield, we make special maps with them and then we use deployables after (only for adding sandbags or barwire to the existing trenches in the heightmaps).

to draw something like that in the battlefield is no difficulty with the heightmap:

Or like in Empire when u are able to make a artillery piece have sandbags around them but the infantry would have them.

We've looked into several of those possibilities but are fairly limited in our ability to make new maps, youve made some custom maps havent you?

yes, i could try to do something when i come back from holidays... But the best mapper ever is fullin and as I said I am sure he could do propper trenches in a battlefield, you should ask him to make you one map, if he wants of course.

Sorry if this is immpossible or has already been suggested, but perhaps you can make maps with "trenches" in them already, then add the "crouch behind wall" to the trench by reskinning the vannila stone walls and placing them in the "trench"?

Is it possible to make realistic helmets ? the pictures in the image thread were all of campaign caps which were worn but not in the trenches where helmets were almost universally worn by both sides?

    I have a question (more of a suggestion) on tanks;

For Turreted tanks such as the Renault, would it be possible to transfer the properties of the horse carriage in Horse Artillery to the Hull and the Cannon to the turret? I guess then you'd have to take away the animation that makes the Gun crew dismount and horses running to the rear, but that wouldn't really be that hard (Delete the entire animation all together). In my opinion, this is completely necessary for some WW1 and all inter-war tanks.
That is the flaw in your theory, gentlemen and I will not help you out of it. If you choose to deal with men by means of compulsion, do so. But you will discover that you need the voluntary co-operation of your victims, in many more ways than you can see at present. And your victims should discover that it is their own volition - which you cannot force - that makes you possible. I choose to be consistent and I will obey you in the manner you demand. Whatever you wish me to do, I will do it at the point of a gun. If you sentence me to jail, you will have to send armed men to carry me there - I will not volunteer to move. If you fine me, you will have to seize my property to collect the fine - I will not volunteer to pay it. If you believe that you have the right to force me - use your guns openly. I will not help you to disguise the nature of your action. -Hank Rearden
