Re: Spartan royal guard
if you have BI than you could install BI XGM where the royal guard uses shield wall, representing the old fighting stile. other than that you have spartan phalangites that fight in phalanx formation

Re: Spartan royal guard
Why not just wait and recruit Spartan phalangites?

Re: Spartan royal guard
You can try modding the unit file and replace shield_wall with phalanx in formations, however I think it requires some extra work like changing the skeleton...

No, I made Axillia have phalanx and it was fine.

Re: Spartan royal guard
Auxilia does not use the same skeleton as the spartan royal guard, it is possible that either the game will crash or animations will look weird...

Re: Spartan royal guard
The skeleton might cause a problem. Not so much because of the over-hand animation because that just gets replaced by the phalanx animation, but because there is no secondary weapon skeleton. If Auxillia worked it might be OK though.

Re: Spartan royal guard
Does auxilia use overhand animation?
I think secondary weapon shouldn't be a problem, spartan royal guard got a sword too IIRC and you don't need a seconday weapon for phalanx since 1.3 IIRC, but if the game does not crash you could get weird stuff like very long overhand spears that would look very silly... If it happens I think you can just change the skeleton to the one used by spartan phalangites in the descr_models_battle file.

Re: 30 Turns=1 Unit!!??
i would rather leave it alone, that unit is strong and i guess players are not meant to have a lot of them.

Re: 30 Turns=1 Unit!!??
The reason they are like that is so players are mostly restricted to just retraining them. I'm currently training a second unit of Spartan Royal Guard, but probably not any more after that unless I have a huge empire that requires it.

Re: 30 Turns=1 Unit!!??
Mine have single handley taken the enemy walls with over 500 men on them, with a unit of 41 men
. They're pretty vunerable to missle units though.
